Default VT8251 Vista

I'm a owner of a Medion MD8822 computer which comes with a MSI MS-7318 motherboard. This motherboard has the VIA chipset VT8251. I have two SATA discs in my system and I'm currently trying to install Ubuntu on the computer. The problem arises when the SATA controller is set to IDE, this works without problems in Vista, but the linux installation cannot see the hard discs. The SATA controller can also be set to AHCI or RAID. When enabling RAID, Vista returns with a Blue Screen of Death (BSoD) even though I've installed the latest RAID driver from VIA (5.60a). When enabling AHCI Vista only sees the master drive, and not the secondary.

My question is if anyone has resolved the blue screen error, it's a stop code called something with 07b in the end. Or if anyone knows why Vista only sees one hard drive when using the AHCI option?

Cheers

Robert

Here is something to ponder:

Things are not always as one may think.

Well, even though the RAID chip on the mobo may be a cheap piece of sh!t, I just figure that you still may demand that you can switch it on and have your OS be able to start at least. Even though you're just running the JBOD-mode...

Playing around some more, I've found a new VIA issue. When enabling the AHCI windows vista boots fine when using the standard windows driver. However I have two SATA discs, and Vista can suddenly only "see" one of them. When starting Ubuntu with this setting both harddrives can be "seen". Also BIOS shows that two hard drives are present. BUT, when updating the Vista AHCI driver to the latest from VIA 5.60a, and rebooting the system, Vista gives a blue screen of death and a stop code xxxxxx.07b... which sucks... Why the hell can't VIA make drivers that work with vista????
