Default KT400 Vista and Radeon 9600 AGP

I have installed Vista 32bit, I've got everything to work fine except HW acceleration on my Radeon 9600. Aero is disabled and everything related to graphic is slow.
The Windows Vista score shows 1.0 for both the video tests! An ATI Radeon 9600 should be much faster. To try and fix the problem I have tried installing the current ATI Beta drvs, oficial drvs these install fine but still no acceleration. I've tried removing these and using the windows drivers and reinstalling again. Still no HW acceleration.
I've checked 'dxdiag' and acceleration is disabled for AGP and Direct3D is NOT AVAILABLE
I've done a lot of online searches and can't come up with anything. I know that Radeon 9600 128bit 256 MB AGP is not state of the ART but I am preatty sure that it is strong enough to run Vista Aero interface without problems.Even NV 5200 (AGP) 128 MB wich is much worse card perfom better in Vista on same computer. It looks like it is some kind of strange issue between Via AGP and Catalyst drivers. I've also run the Windows update and none of the updates made a difference.
PC SETUP
Windows VISTA 32bit Ultimate Edition
asus a7v8x Motherboard (VIA KT400) (latest BIOS)
Athlon XP3000
1 GB DDR 400
Radeon 9600 Pro 256mb
550W Branded PSU
(With XP everything was fine)
(Vista is not upgrade I performed clean setup)
(Tryed everything in bios FW: ON OFF, AGP performace control: ON OFF, Aperture Size from: 128-1 GB, diferent memory modules etc....

Any recommendations?

Is there in the device manager at VIA CPU to AGP a driver from VIA or not.If not install it manually with the have disk method.
Search this forum for my topic "VIA CPU to AGP (2003 edition)forced to install on Vista
via agp inf(for XP) dated 2003(4.42) brings back the FW on kt333" under "VIA Hyperion 4in1 driver Arena" forum category.U will find here all u need.
If after update appears instability put AGP speed at 4x and turn off FastWrites.
Good luck!!!

Thank you, I will try that and see whats happen. The thing with AGP speed is that I cannot switch back to 4x becouse 8x is greyed out in bios but lets hope its going to bee fine. BTW. do I need to update other system devices manualy thats belongs to chipset??

One more thing, I really cannot undertand why Via dont make drivers thats automaticly supports KT333/400 chipsets via Wizard?? Thats reminds me on Nvidia Nforce 2/3 chiset and troubles with Vista, I tought that Via is more users frednly and resposible for their producst.

If I may I suggest petition for Via to make fully compatible 4in1 drivers for olders chipsets thats supports Vista not just partialy (When I use regular methond of installation 4in1 package I can only see Machine INF, no other options like (AGP etc.)

Really this computer is strong enough for Vista (KT400, 1GB DDR 400, Radeon 9600 AGP, Barton 3000+) I will be shame to forget this rock stable chipset just becouse of driver issue.

Agree?

This driver u will install is made for XP but works ok(u can see that has even WHQLin Vista although is made for XP) in VISTA for me ,u may also update the ide driver with the same method just unzip the 5.11,5.12 & 5.13 packages and search for the Mini ide driver folder and navigate to NT5 folder tru the have disk method and pick from there the inf file and follow same procedure like in VIA CPU to AGP case.
The routine in Vista is not normal but u can install the Inf driver from the VIA wizard and the other 2 drivers with have disk method, for me its ok.U can get from the mobo manufacturer the package for better compatibility ,they usually adjust the drivers here and there.
If u have luck with the video driver to be good u will be able to use Vista.
If under Vista u observe video driver issues Vista telling u that video driver has reseted u can try to solve the problem by stopping the updates in the services panel.Make a clean install stop the Auto update service to even start up.U need to do that because only turning it off from the usual interface will not stop that service critical updates will still install without your knowledge.
For my Nvidia card stopping windows updates was a good thing because with every update the nvklm... issue appeared often and often.Dont worry the "video driver stopped responding.. "appears on many configurations with new hardware and appears with nvidia,s3 etc video chipsets.U just need some luck.
Try the Vista without the updates see how it works.
