Well there theoretically could be a relationship in that the parallel port function is provided by the LPC SuperI/O chip, which is itself something of a PCI bridge and controlled via the SMBus (I2C) that is used for all kinds of low-level register and configuration space programming.
However, a more likely explanation is that the ECS rep wants to make certain you really do have BIOS 070807, since this is found in the release notes for 070807:
- Fixed Print port setting be hidden
How did you update the BIOS, from DOS or Windows? If you used DOS, did you use the following command line switches?
AFUDOS 070807S.ROM /p /b /n /c /x
If not, I would flash the BIOS again from DOS using those switches, as described in the .pdf flashing guide included with the BIOS download from ECS. Sometimes it is required to make sure that all segments of the BIOS are properly overwritten with the new code.
Also, I would advise removing any PCI cards (except video of course) before flashing and re-install Vista after you have updated the BIOS.
