Default PCI-PCI Bridge re-install on every cold boot

That fix doesn't seem to have worked! Everything ended up being re-installed again today.

Right, I bit the bullet and reinstalled Windows XP MCE 2005 today. Had enough of the inconvenience of the Vista issues I'm afraid.

Still, at least we have a solution... use Win XP!

Default PCI-PCI Bridge re-install on every cold boot

Sorry for performing the cardinal sin of double posting AND bumping a topic, but I have very important news regarding this issue.

I have been again contacted by Microsoft's hardware compatibility department with regards to the issue with the PT880 Ultra Northbridge and the VT8237A Southbridge. Below is a copy of the email from Microsoft.

--------------------------------------------
Hi Peter,

I wanted to give you an update on this investigation. So far I have been unable to locate a machine configuration here at Microsoft that exhibits this problem. This is very likely a BIOS issue exposed by Vista’s native support for PCI Express and is something not seen on prior versions of Windows as a result. As such I fear most of the hardware we have here has received BIOS updates to correct the issue. I am working directly with VIA to see if we can isolate this further but it is unfortunately taking time.

I was wondering if you could possibly provide more information from the machine you have with this problem? Specifically, I would like to get a copy of the following log file that Vista creates:

<Install Drive:>\Windows\inf\setupapi.dev.log

If possible, it would be best to send the log AFTER the PCI-PCI bridge has been reinstalled a few times as you described below.

Thanks for the help,

Brandon
--------------------------------------------

I have a feeling that Mr. Allsop (Brandon) would appreciate other setupapi.dev.log files if anyone else could please obtain them. Attach them to an email, and send them to my email address - grafix52_AT_hotmail_DOT_com.

Thanks!

I would do that - but mine is 46MB in size!!! It'll crash your mailbox!

That's a lot of text!

Is there any other way of sending this information to either yourselves or your contact at Microsoft?

boyblue, thanks but I think Mr Allsop really needs the file from those systems affected by the issue only! Thanks anyway!

Andy2510, try using rapidshare.com or rapidshare.de and upload the file that way. Then, when it's uploaded, send the download link in an email to the address I listed above. I didn't realise the file was so big, thats insane! If you can't do this, reply to this topic and we'll sort something else out.

Thanks to both of you for sticking with this issue!

I've 'zipped' it as suggested and it is now 2.49MB. Would this size be sufficient for your email inbox or would it still be too big?

Andy2510, I'm surprised that the file has zipped to such a small size! 2.49MB is no problem for my Hotmail inbox so you can go right ahead and send it.

Thanks
Peter

I'm surprised aswell. There must of been so many spaces in there that it was easy to shrink!

Anyway, the file has now been sent.
