Default PCI-PCI Bridge re-install on every cold boot

Probably a false positive with Avast - this happens frequently.

A few weeks ago Avast said there was a trojan in Microsoft Access 2007! That false positive was quickly repaired though.

Default PCI-PCI Bridge re-install on every cold boot

My Avast stopped flagging the BIOS update for the PT890T-A motherboard as a trojan, so today I downloaded and installed the ECS 070807 BIOS, then updated to the latest driver versions from the ECS homepage.

The good news is that the BIOS update did not brick my machine. The bad news is that it didn't solve the PCI-PCI Bridge reinstall problem either. Everything worked fine as long as I restarted. But when I shut down and did a cold boot, Vista reloaded the PCI-PCI bridge drivers, PCI card drivers, and onboard audio drivers as it had done before the BIOS update.

Any suggestions (other than the obvious; replace the motherboard and never buy from ECS again)? Has anyone else tried this BIOS update? Did anyone receive a different BIOS after contacting ECS support?

Thanks.

Open up a ticket with ECS (that's what mnale did - BIOS of 070807 (or 8th July 07) may be too old to correct the problem) and ask for a BIOS that fixes this problem. A few pages back there is a copy of an email pitr52 received from Microsoft - copy that and add that to the ticker if you want to (that's what it's there for).

Default PCI-PCI Bridge re-install on every cold boot

I opened a ticket with ECS, told them I had installed the 070807 BIOS for the PT-890T-A motherboard from the ECS website, quoted the email from Microsoft, and referenced this forum. ECS responded with instructions to update to the 070807 BIOS. After informing them that I had already done this, as noted in my original request, they sent me this followup:

"Could you please check your BIOS and see if the parrallel port is showing in there or NOT."

Does anyone know of a relation between the PCI-PCI Bridge problem and the presence or absence of a parallel port in BIOS? Or perhaps ECS support is actually an outdated version of ELIZA? :-)

Thanks.

Well there theoretically could be a relationship in that the parallel port function is provided by the LPC SuperI/O chip, which is itself something of a PCI bridge and controlled via the SMBus (I2C) that is used for all kinds of low-level register and configuration space programming.

However, a more likely explanation is that the ECS rep wants to make certain you really do have BIOS 070807, since this is found in the release notes for 070807:

- Fixed Print port setting be hidden

How did you update the BIOS, from DOS or Windows? If you used DOS, did you use the following command line switches?

AFUDOS 070807S.ROM /p /b /n /c /x

If not, I would flash the BIOS again from DOS using those switches, as described in the .pdf flashing guide included with the BIOS download from ECS. Sometimes it is required to make sure that all segments of the BIOS are properly overwritten with the new code.

Also, I would advise removing any PCI cards (except video of course) before flashing and re-install Vista after you have updated the BIOS.

jwanak, I don't think there is a relation with the PCI bridge and the parallel port, it's just that this new version has the parallel port hidden bug fixed and that the guy wanted to be sure that you really have the latest BIOS.

Hey can you tell me your case ID ? I will refer to it with my ECS ticket.

Mine is 07112110049

Thank !

Did anyone ever find a solution to this problem for the ECS PT890T-A? The most recent bios update (7/12/19) does not fix it for me.
