Default Graphic Card Information.

Hi,

I have P4M800CE integrated graphic card on my system board. Now I have upgraded my OS from XP SP 2 to Vista Ultimate. Everything works fine however when I try using the Media cenetr it sasy teh graphic card driver is not updated. So I would like to know whether the above graphic card is supported by Vista. If yes from where I can get Vista compatible drivers for the above VGA card.

Do somebody have the information about this.

VIA does not have any Vista drivers for that onboard video. You are stuck with the MS drivers that Vista has included. You will have to get an add in video card that is supported by Vista. Chris.

It would depend on what kind of expansion slot you have on the board, could be AGP or PCI-E. I could link you to a site that I shop at all the time, but it's in California, not sure where you are located, as prices will be lots different.

Right now, since rival companies Nvidia and ATI are "at war" video card prices are really good, with a decent card going for under $100USD. If you only want surfing the Internet and maybe DVD playback, there are cards for under $50USD that will work fine. Chris.

P4M800CE motherboard should have an available AGP 8x slot. Check again. Either way, you'll need a graphics card that supports DirectX 9.0 or higher (in hardware).

For NVIDIA, you'll need GeForce 6 Series or later. GeForce FX 5 Series is DX9.0 but should be avoided because NVIDIA discontinued driver support for the FX 5 Series cards under Vista. For ATI, you'll need, Radeon 9550/9600 or later (Radeon X1000 Series, HD 2000 and 3000 Series are later).

There are some interesting options in conventional PCI these days, but AGP would be better. Once you have confirmed whether or not you have an AGP slot, we can recommend something more specific.
