Default Cannot raise the resolution.

I can't set the correct resolution with the driver supplied on the viaarena website. It defaults to 640x480, and will not let me change it at all.

My motherboard has a KM400 chipset, with UniChrome integrated graphics. I am using a fresh installation of Windows XP Professional. My monitor supports 1360x768 resolution, which I have successfully been able to achieve in linux, however, no dice in windows

Is there an older version of the driver that might work?

Sure the driver is taking hold? Sounds like it's defualting to the 'standard video'.

The weird thing is that the default windows driver can do a higher resolution. I'm not sure what's up...I found the model number of the pc that the moterboard initially came from, so I'm going to try the driver from HP's website.

Ok so the hp driver doesn't work either. Perhaps the driver is having problems using my display? I know that the chip is capable (I have done it in linux a couple times).

Is it possible to change the resolution in a different manner than from the desktop>properties>settings?

Are you using TV Out/S-Video?

Do you have the .inf for the monitor?

Ain't going to happen in Windows on this motherboard, due to the BIOS not having support for widescreen resolutions. Display drivers for Windows are dependent on the VGA BIOS for mode-setting support, which is embedded in the system BIOS when the graphics are on-board. Most VIA integrated motherboards from this era never received a VGA BIOS to support widescreen modes. Its only been on newer chipsets in the past year or so. Drivers in Linux can bypass the BIOS dependency.

KM400 boards should have an AGP slot available. Just buy a cheap AGP card like GeForce FX 5200, which can be found for about $30 (US).
