Default NX12000EG/XP_SP3/VGA Driver --> black screen

I've problems installing the graphic drivers for a NX12000EG, attached to a Philips 180Ps (1280*1024 native), running on Windows XP/SP3.

After getting the latest drivers from

VIA EPIA NX-Series Nano-ITX Board - VIA Technologies, Inc.

installing the

"4 in 1 Chipset Driver for EPIA - NX" (V509)

first and then reboot, everything is still fine.

When i then install the

"VGA Driver for EPIA - NX" (16.94.48.02)

the installer seems to try several display settings which dis- and enables the display several times. However, right before finishing, it somehow actives something which cannot be displayed and the screen stays black.

Using remote desktop, I verified that the installer completed successfully. After clicking on "Finish" and invoking "shutdown -s" from the command line, the epia shuts down.

When I now try to startup the thing, the screen remans black, even during the BIOS phase. Only resetting the BIOS to its defaults gives me the display back, but right after the Windows splash screen, it disappears again.

However, Windows may be started in VGA mode and the display stays visible. But whatever display setting I then try after logging in, as soon as I confirm them, the screen gets black again.

Does some software really change something in the bios during startup? I cannot see another explanation.

I've found several posts around about similar problems, but none of which i've seen did completely solve my problem.

Anyone knows what's I'm doing wrong?

Any Help will be greatly appreciated!
