Reptile is on a distinguished road
Default XP CN700 custom resolution

I'm running Windows XPe on an ETX card with a VIA CN700, connected to an LVDS panel and a VGA monitor. I'm running VIA/S3G driver V6.14.10.284. I want to be able to set up the VGA monitor to an arbitrary resolution, ignoring the EDID.

Ideally I want to run the CN700 in clone mode with the VGA monitor as the primary, and the LVDS panel as the secondary. There seems to be some clone mode pruning going on that doesn't let me pick the resolutions I want. Is there any way to disable clone mode pruning?

If possible I'd like to find a way of doing this without loading any more monitor drivers: this is an embedded system with no way to add new drivers, and who knows what kind of monitor someone might choose to attach to it?

Is there any way of directly reading the EDID on this system (as opposed to getting it from the registry later on)? Can I filter the EDID and modify it to add resolutions?

Thanks for any thoughts or insights!

Don't know if any one here has the knowledge that you need to fix this. I would suggest Linux but that may not be an option. There is no way that I know of to contact anyone at VIA that would have an answer either. Sorry. Chris.

OK Chris, thanks for the response.

This is easy enough to do on Linux as there are I2C drivers exposed for each video port.

It must be possible to do this on XP: these guys seem to have managed it:
Nicomsoft Developer Tools

... wish I knew how!
