Default Unichrome Pro IGP - Streaming Video

I receive an error when attempting to view streaming video from Netflix. Their tech support attributes this error to the video chipset and indicate that I should obtain the latest driver, which I already have. Is this analysis accurate?

Current config:
Biostar motherboard, Win XP,
VIA/SG3 Unichrome Pro P4M890 Version - 22.00.01e 11/29/07
(display driver 6.14.10.359 3/14/07)

Yes, Netflix is correct. It is a driver issue, having to do with the DRM that Netflix uses. There were some other Unichrome updates earlier this month but none for your chipset, unfortunately. Sorry I don't have much more to suggest other than buying an add in video card. Prices are so cheap these days, it doesn't cost much to get a nice video card. Chris.

Default New video card

Mr. Chris:
I found this card BFG Tech GeForce 7600GT PCI-E 16X 256MB GDDR3 Dual-Link DVI-I HDTV (currently bidding $21.49 on ebay), do you know why this is so inexpensive?

Well it's not really a card that's good for gaming, should be o.k. for watching videos and stuff. It's that cheap because the new cards that are coming out from ATI and nVidia are really cheap, too!

I just got an XFX 9800GTX overclocked edition, 512Mb PCI-E card for $209. So, yeah, a 2 year old 7xxx series card would be about right at $25 or $30. The nVidia 7100's that I bought for my Folding PC's were about $25 brand new, and the 8600GT was under $40.

Before you buy anything, tho, make sure which kind of card your board will accept, is it AGP or PCI-E? Chris.

Default Video Card

My board is PCI-E, so the card should be compatible. I just won the bid so we'll find out. Thanks for the help.

Unhappy Out of luck?

I had the same problem, chatted with Gateway and they say that my laptop Video card wasnt made to be upgraded or replaced, does that mean that my only other option is getting a new laptop?

Did Gateway recommend finding and updating the graphics card driver or did they just pretty much say you were out of luck? Some of the new released VIA drivers do work now with Netflix streaming video. Do you know what type of onboard graphics you Gateway has? Chris.

Default Useless...

They said that I would basically need a new laptop! This is rediculous! I am officially anti-gateway!
