BIOS version 0709 or later is required for widescreen support. There are two PCB versions of the P5VDC-MX; 1.0 and 2.0.

BIOS 0709 was initially listed on the BIOS download sections for both versions, but ASUS later removed it from the BIOS list for PCB 1.0, indicating it is only intended for PCB 2.0. However, I updated my P5VDC-MX 1.0 with the 0709 BIOS before ASUS removed it, and it is working fine. In fact, I have subsequently updated to BIOS 0712, which also appears on the BIOS list for PCB 2.0 but not for 1.0, and it works with no problems.

There is now an even newer BIOS listed for both, version 0803, released on May 4th. I have not updated to this version yet, but I intend to soon.

Thanks!

I downloaded the new bios and upgraded the motherboard.
Now I do have available de wide screen resolutions.
But... en 1440x900, it only works in 16bits.
If I choose 32bit the screen shakes with a horizontal rain effect.
Any idea?
I did test the monitor in another pc with an ati vga to see if the problem was the monitor. But it worked just fine.

Thanks in advance.

tcsenter: Final proof that you're talking out of your neck. 2^16 = 65536. Cheap panels do 18bit, but more expensive ones should accept 24bit colour. Not that any of this matters when using an analogue connection, not that any of that matters when you're using DVI either, where the controller on the monitor will translate things.

aurenale: So you have lines shifting against eachother? A riple/wave running vertically?

This probably an unstable PLL, I've seen tons of those myself when i created the dotclock PLL generators for my driver.

This is a driver issue. Since you can't fix the windows driver, you will have to beg your vendor for a BIOS with a different dotclock for your mode. Sadly i can't point you to my driver (under linux and such), as i still don't support the VT3344 unichrome on the P4M800Pro.

Congratulations, you caught me attempting to formulate a reply while I was in an overly sleepy state. Ironically, though you claim I don't know what I'm talking about, your reply offered no further instruction or advice then mine:

WOW! Thanks for that totally original revelation.

BTW, have you even got on the scoreboard yet? We're up to at least two dozen users who have successfully acquired widescreen capability by following my advice, that only includes those who have posted on the forum, not those who found the information beneficial without posting a question. There are even more successful cases on other forums.

How many users have you persuaded to switch to Linux just get widescreen display? Oh yeah - 0.

Let's see... one needs to upgrade their bios to get new resolutions... So... there's a 90% chance that this BIOS also decides the dotclock (as that's the only tricky bit to know between the different resolutions).

When i said "this is a driver issue" then i meant it in the sense of driver you here have: bios + actual driver thrown together. The latest display driver will not help this person, as he would need to upgrade his bios, like what it is you are (mindlessly) pushing all the time (without blaming the real culprit, VIA, too).

Well, if anyone is using linux with VIA graphics, they are using my code, and they are happy as they can get the resolution they want. These are numbers you can't ever match, and is was a level of involvement you will never match either.

Default Via/S3G UniChrome Pro IGP in 1440x900 ???

I'm having the same problem, just bought a 19" widescreen but 1440 x 900 isn't available with my current driver, I thought updating my driver would help but instead I can now support two monitors. The info that came with monitor also says that I should set my PC system to WXGA+ or WSXGA+ resolution, but I'm not sure what they're talking about. I have no idea what my motherboard is but I now that I have a UniChrome IGP (KM400, KN400). Please help! Is there any other info needed?

We really need to know the make and model of the motherboard, though its probably futile given that very, very, very few companies released a BIOS to support widescreen on any KM400 boards (and its highly doubtful they would still support such an older product).

Download the BIOS Agent utility from eSupport.com. Run ba.exe and click on the green 'Get BIOS Info' button. In particular, the following information would be helpful:

- BIOS Date
- BIOS ID
- OEM Sign-on

You need not 'submit' your BIOS information to eSupport when prompted.

Would it be easier to just put in a new graphics card, I'd kind of like to avoid that? I don't even no how much they cost, or how do it, I'm kind of just teaching myself as I go.
