This is how to install a new video card.*my way*
1: Before you start check you have the latest bios and motherboard drivers installed. (what Via version you use is upto you.)
2: Once you have done that remove the drivers and software from your previous video card and power down (turn off the power, ie: pull the plug). If you have onboard video check the manual on how to disable it.
3: Remove the old and insert the new card, connect the monitor cable and I always clear the bios, now with the power turn off to the monitor, power up the computer and listen for the bios beep, once that happens turn the power on to the monitor and go into the bios to adjust your settings. Use the save and exit.
4: Boot into windows and cancel any driver install programs so the
standard VGA driver gets installed.
5: I use windows XP so make sure it is updated to SP1 with the latest DX.
6: Now check the Via driver installed by checking the Regedit.
To check with the regedit do the following
Open Start - Run and type in
regedit. Double click
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE then
SOFTWARE and check the listing under
VIA and/or VIA4in1Driver.
7: Check in the device manager also to see if all is OK.
If everthing is fine now install the Ati driver (I use the 4.4 cats) with windows explorer and AV software turned off. Reboot then install the control panel, reboot.
8: Just to be safe run chkdsk and DX diag, then try a 3D program.
Of course some hardware has problems but this way worked for me with no problems.
If you have 1GB of ram installed make sure the memory is set to programs in my computer properties under advance.
If you have anything more to add, feel free to comment
Also read Ati's
FAQ's for bios setups, etc and post here if you need anymore info, and I will try to help.
AGP driver is part of the VIA Hyperion drivers (4 in 1) and can be found
