Upgrading from a KT400 to a KT600
Simple one really, I remember a long time ago, a post by one of the learned members about upgrading from the KT400 to the 600.
I know it sounds a 'big wow' but the two boards in question are poles apart in terms of speed. The ASUS KT600 board is much faster than the ABIT KT400......
So, if I recall, it's no biggy to dump the VIA drivers for the KT400 and simply install the KT600 drivers instead, yes?
Or is this a no-no?
The reason for this is, is that I don't want to have to wipe windows and re-install as the missus worries that some files will be lost if we do.
She's using Windows 2000............
Any thoughts?
Cheers all.

The drivers would be the same IMO, one thing that might be a pain is the different bios and their settings.
Good to see you round again.

Hi
Thanks you two. I thought as much.
Not been online that much, midnite, just keeping up with the footie games I'm involved in, and that doesn't take too long each time.
I've cut down on all of the forums I used to visit, primarily due to lack of work, and thus the need to keep looking for it (which isn't easy in the current climate), meanwhile keeping the students in the few classes the college still dredges up for me VERY happy.
Hi to all the old faces, and hope all are well!

Overkill, good to see you posting here again!
Like the others said, the existing VIA drivers should be fine when you update the board, VIA's chipset drivers are a "one driver fits all" kind of thing. Only issues might be with differences in onboard sound or LAN, as they could be a different brand.
Let us know how you are getting along. Chris.

Hi all
Just thought I'd let you know, I've been offered a new job. Sadly not in teaching, and I have doubts (who doesn't when changing their working life drastically in their mid 40's?) about adapting to it, but beggars can't be choosers!
Thanks for the advice, and hopefully some time in the future I can update you again.

Well, you gotta do what you gotta do, O'Kill. I work as a clerk in a porno store, but my expertese is electronics and mechanics, 2 things which are not in great demand these days with the economic downturn.
Main thing is, if it's a step up for you, not down. That's what keeps me where I'm at: free rent and utilities plus a decent salary.
Good to see you post again, Happy New Year! Chris.
