upgrade to new mainboard+VIA software failure to uninstall
I am a novice PC builder for personal use and I am on my third system, with the same lead hard drive. That's right; I did the great Microsoft "No-no" and pulled my XP SP3 HD to put it into a new system. My old motherboard is the Asrock 775v88+ and used VIA chipset drivers, which now conflict with my new board's drivers.
Actual issues: when I boot, I get an "Invalid Boot.ini; boot to C: drive. This is after I push my power button and constantantly fail my initial boot-attempt. To bypass this, I have to shut the power supply switch off and toggle my C: drive's connectors.
Any attempt to uninstall any VIA drivers has failed. I am semi-capable of reading and editing my registry, but would rather avoid that without guided instruction. My system is great when it boots, but I am afriad that if I go inside it EVERY time I want to start it, that I will inevitably fry it. Please HELP!!!

Did you clear CMOS on the new board before trying the first boot? If so and it didn't help, read on:
Presuming you have your XP CD, you can do a Repair of your Windows install.
Boot up the PC and go into BIOS. Set the CD/DVD drive as first boot device. Reboot with the XP CD in the drive. When the PC starts up, XP will start to install. DON'T FREAK OUT! XP will see the existing Windows installation and stop and ask you what you want to do? Tell it to "Repair and existing installation of Windows"
Now it will do it's thing, may take a little while, then when it's done and you need to reboot, go back into BIOS and change the boot order back to Hard Drive as first device, etc. Take the CD out of the drive. You should now be able to run Windows.
I have done this many times when going from one chip set to another, and altho it does work o.k., at some point it is best to save all the stuff you want to keep and reinstall XP. You may have performance issues down the road. Chris.

I visited a website which promoted new software for free on a single-day basis before any of it caught on, so ri-installing XP would cause loss of software. That's just not a happy option for me.
Anyway, I wrote my initial problem from a PC which was on a college campus PC and not my own. More info was available, which I did not have until now. First, thanks so much to Chris for the response. Please note: I am a criminal justice proffessional and factually oriented. As such formed habits require, to be suffice and not curt, Chris, I did run a Windows repair from my my DVD Drive before my first boot. Unfortunately, the issues are post-repair. Next, the title of software in my software list is exactly "VIA Platform Device Manager." Next, I do recieve the following exact error before said software's uninstaller initiallizes: "Xfilter: Get COMPONENT_VERSION failed in COMPONENT.CIF/KOMPNT.CIF." Finally, after clicking "Okay," the uninstaller does run, but the issues persist and the software does still exist on my software list. Please note, also, that I have run CCleaner a few times and it seems that it finds the same registry errors every time show and "repair," every time.
Can my system not identify installed version because it's no longer pertinent? If that's the case, do I have to manually remove it from my registry, then "C:Program Files," and then, "Add Remove Programs List?"
Thanks in advance...

If the new board does not use any of the legacy VIA drivers, then by all means manually delete them. Chris.
