Default Asus - Via and drivers

Hello.
I wanna understand why the old 4in1 drivers from Via works for my asus a7v600-x but the newest one hyperion 5.20 makes it crash on every single game i play.

I have this motherboard for quite a while, and the 4in1 drivers provided by asus makes my pc crashes too. It took me years (really, years) to discover which drivers work for this motherboard cause i thought was a windows problem, memory, processor, graphics card, hard drive, psu, etc, etc.

Could anyone explain which is the difference of these drivers? Shouldnt it be better the new ones? I think the problem is only on the agp drivers.

I'd like to know if I could install other new drivers to improve my performance.

My pc: Athlon XP 3200+ , Asus A7v600-x , 1gb ddr 400 kingston , zalman 500 psu , xfx nvidia 7600gs 512mb agp , samsung 80gb hd

First off, I always advocate staying with what works. The last good version of the Hyperion drivers was 5.17. All the ones since then have a habit of crashing older systems. The AGP drivers are actually several years old and I don't expect any thing newer from VIA.

I don't really know how much more performance you can expect out of that PC, is this for gaming? And what version of Forcewares are you using? That is another driver that using the newest will not work well with that older card. Chris.

thanks for answering. I'm using 175 driver from nvidia (the latest one for geforce 7 on nvidia site).

Which drivers should I use? In Asus cd pack there is a 4in1 driver that make my pc crashes so I couldnt really rely on original cd (soundmax audio driver crashes my pc too). Crashes (BSODs, freezes, infinite loops, etc, etc) only happened when I played games.

Im using the latest vynil from Via for vt8237 chipset but I cant use my microphone (this driver is not intended for this motherboard but at least I can hear music in game and dont crash).

This pc is an all-purpose-pc . A little gaming (not so godly games, just something like Spore and some MMORPGs) office and some videos. Nothing like CAD or something like this.

Try an older Nvidia driver like the 99.xx series.

Are you getting "STOP" errors when XP blue screens? And what do they say? You could have a RAM issue. Chris.
