Default QDI Advance 9 PC USB ports not working- please help

My Nephew has been givin this PC with the USB ports disabled in the BIOS. I reset the bios to enable the USB controller but no USB facilities were listed in Device Manager (Win XP). Trouble shooting indicated USB drivers could not be found.

From the PC handbook, the Chipset is Apollo Pro 133 and I have downloaded Via Hyperion 4-in-1 V4.43 to my PC.

As his problem PC is not on the net, and remote from me now, I intend putting Via Hyperion 4-in-1 on a cd to him.

Please advise how we should proceed to load the new drivers. Any help would be much appreciated.

USB drivers are not included in the 4 in 1's. XP should have them built in. XP should also be updated to Service Pack 2. Windows Update is the only place you can get the VIA USB drivers, but WU will have to scan that PC to find the driver updates needed.

You could try and have XP search for new devices. Chris.

Default USB port issue

Many thanks for your help Chris. I was barking... up the wrong tree I did'nt realise the drivers were in XP. I had figured, incorrectly, that as the USB was part of the chipset southbridge then divers were Via's.

Really appreciate your info

Les
