Exclamation Windows XP won't boot after hyperion install

Hi!

Quick answer needed!!!

I have this problem with another computer. I downloaded the newest hyperion drivers, installed them without problems, but after reboot the machine won't start to windows... the windows logo and moving bar is showing, but after that i only get black screen and nothing happens.. i have tried to start the computer in safe mode but still it won't start. the hard-drive is loading something (red indicator light is blinking), but i can't get no picture. Is it possible that i have installed the wrong chipset drivers?!? i wasn't sure what chipset the machine was using, and the computers owner was 99% sure that it was VIA.. i know i should have checked it with sis sandra etc.. but it is a little too late for that... Anyone else had similar problems? The computer is running WinXP Professional SP2.

Do a repair of the existing Windows install.

Set the first boot device to the CD/ DVD drive. Boot the PC with the XP disk in the drive. Windows will start to install. Don't freak. It will stop when it sees the existing XP installation, and will ask what you want to do? Tell it to repair the existing XP installation.

Hopefully Windows, when it checks the hardware, will reinstall the correct chipset drivers, and after the repair, all will be back to the way it was. If not, you're screwed, and will have to reinstall Windows. Chris.

Problem solved!
THX for the hint.

I guess something just went wrong with the installation.. I rolled back to the last returnpoint, and everything worked just fine. The chipset was VIA PT890, so i had installed the correct chipset drivers (ill always check this before doing anything from now on )now i just have to try again.. i think im going to install SP3 before i try again. now i have to battle with the UAA High definition drivers to get the sound work..

Yeah, good old Microsoft. Their UAA updates screw up the sound driver install for VIA and Realtek audio drivers. Some people have said this is fixed with SP3. Best way around that is to install XP up to SP 2 but no further, then install the sound drivers, then get all the updates past SP2.

But if you already have the updates it will be difficult. Other folks have said they just try several times and the drivers finally take hold. It's pretty buggered up. Good luck. Chris.
