Can't install Hyperion Version 5.18a
Hallo, dear members...
I simply wanted to update my Via hyperion Drivers and therfore downloaded version 5.18a .
I am using a ASUS K8V Deluxe (Chipsets K8T800 and VIA VT8237 for Serial ATA Usage).
For some odd reason I can't update to hyperion 5.18a .
I always get the following message:
"
Unhandled Exception
Error Number: 0x80040703
Description: Failed to find dll function: viasetup.CheckCompHWExist
Setup will now terminate "
When I click ok, I get the final message (in German):
"The installation assistant was canceled, before Via HyperionPro Setup Wizard could be fully installed.
Your system was not modified..."
What's wrong and how can I solve this issue, in order to update/install VIA Hyperion 5.18a .
Anyone, who had this trouble, also?
Thank you very much in advance and I hope to get some positive answers.
Best Regards,
Testversuch.

no idea???
However friends, please do reply, even if you only think to have a slight clue.
It really makes me silly, why I can't install the new hyperion and what this error message is all about or what it means.

What is the current version of drivers you are running now? Only the Falcon storage driver is new in the 5.18's vs. the earlier drivers.
If you are not having any issues with your current drivers, I highly recommend leaving them.
What version of Windows and what Service Pack is installed?
Unhandled exception errors usually occur if there are missing or invalid Registry paths. I use System Mechanic to fix these errors. Chris.

Hallo, Chris...
first of all thank you very much for your very informative reply.
Well, you are right.I formerly had version 5.17 and everything was running fine.Due to the fact, that my mainboard did not recognize a new sata-2 hdd, I decided to install hyperion 5.18 to solve the problem, but the installation process was always canceled. The fact, that I have no other problems, is a good sign,so I would follow your advice and don't do anything anymore and leave the system,as it is.
But nevertheless because of my curiousity or for possible problems in the future I must know, how I might solve the problem:
I also had the guess, that something must have been going wrong with the registry.Maybe some key was cleaned away with regcleaner oder regseeker.
That is why I would like to ask you, what this program "System Mechanic" is all about? Where can i get it (freeware?) and how do I use it,in order to restore or fix the issue.
Is there any other possibility to get rid of the problem, like deinstallting the hyperion drivers via "Control Panel -> Software -> Via Integrated Setup Wizard" and then reinstalling it again?
Would you recommend that?
But I would be afraid of doing that, maybe I could not install the new Hyperion at all and would get the error message again, like this is happening to me, now.
And finally I certainly tell my OS:
Windows XP Professional with SP1 .
Again I want to thank you for your very friendly and helpful support and I do hope, that you might answer this reply of mine, as well, in order to get more detailed infos, how to solve the issue in case of an emergency.
Best Regards,
Dennis.

First I recommend updating XP to Service Pack 2. But that won't solve the issue with a SATA II drive on your board, because I think it only supports SATA I. If so, there will be a small jumper on the back of the drive (where the power and SATA connectors are) that you need to install to "slow" the drive to SATA I speed. Then your board will recognize the drive.
Registry Mechanic is not free, but it's a great program. Reg cleaner will not restore damaged Registry entries (AFAIK) it just deletes bad/ broken keys. You may be able to do a Repair of your Windows install.
To repair XP, change the boot order to boot from the CD drive. Put the XP CD in the drive and start the PC. XP will start to install, then stop when it finds you XP install. It will ask what you want to do? Tell it to "Repair and existing install of Windows" and let it do it's thing. DO NOT use the Repair Console in XP, it never works.
And, again, the only difference between the 5.17's and the 5.18's is the updated Falcon Storage driver which is for E-SATA drives. Chris.

hi, Chris...
thank you again for your supoport. This leads me to two hopefully last questions:
1. If I would purchase System or Registry Mechanic ans use it, do I need to use the XP-CD,as well? Or would Registry Mechanic detect the problem with my VIA drivers in the registry and fix it?
2. If I would try the solution with the XP-CD as you described it, would the command "Repair and existing install of Windows" change any other options of my current install afterwards or would it possible fix my setup-problem in the registry only? Do I need to reinstall current drivers again or do I need to reinstall existing programs?
Thank you very much again.
Best Regards,
Dennis.

I would try the Repair option first. No, it will not change any of your current settings and you will not have to reinstall any drivers. It simply repairs the Registry and any other "broken" parts of XP.
And I still suggest updating to SP2. Chris.

Hallo, Chris...
I will update to SP2, no worries about that and thank you again.
But what do you mean with Repair option this time?
The Repair option with the help of Sytem Mechanic or
The Repair option with the help of the XP-CD ?
