Could be several things. Bad capacitors on the main board. A failing hard drive. Virus or spy ware infecting Windows.
Physically look at the main board in the area around the CPU for capacitors with bulging or leaking tops (visit Badcaps.net for pictures and info).
Run diagnostic software on your hard drive, this is available at the maker of the drive's website.
Run anti virus and anti spyware programs. I recommend AVG anti virus; and Spy Bot Search & Destroy and Ad Aware for removing spyware. They are all free.
Could also be memory failing, but not likely. You can do a Repair of your Windows install as well, but try the first few suggestions first. Chris.
