Default Asus A8V Socket939 and new driver 4 in 1

Hello

this is my system:
AMD 64 3800 939
Asus A8V
Asus 6800LE AGP
OCZ EL DDR PC-3200 Dual Channel Platinum (2 X 512MB)
Maxtor IDE 120 GB (6Y0120L0)
Maxtor SATA 1 80 GB (6Y080M0)
Samsung TS-H552U
Windows XP sp2

I would like to know if the update of the 4in1-driver of the VIA chipset of my motherboard Asus A8V (AMD 939) could have some risk or not. It could be the version number 4.30....

Is it necessary only if the hardware have some evident issues or problems?

What kind of benefits could bring the new drivers? I have a little problem: the SATA1 hard disk is recognized from the system as a SCSI device and the read/write seek time is slower as the ATA HD.

Is my Asus (VIA kt800 pro + VIA VT8237) also compatible with the Hyperion 5.15.a driver?

Where can I find the standard procedure for installing the new driver?

Thank you very much for the attention

There is always a chance that new drivers will cause problems with older systems, even those systems that are only a few years old. I like to say, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!". If the PC is running o.k. I would just leave it.

I think your current drivers should be at least version 4.53.

If you do decide to try newer drivers, always set a Restore Point before you install the new drivers, that way you can roll back if needed.

To install any VIA Driver package, download the Zip file and un-zip it to a folder on your Desktop. Then open the file and run the Installer. Old files will be automatically over written. Chris.

Hi

thank you very much for the answer.
My VIA-chipset drivers are the version number 4.56v.

I think my problem is not related to the motherboard chipset.

It is an hard disk problem: the random seek time for my old Maxtor SATA is normally near to 15 seconds. New drivers could'nt solve this.

So I remain with the old drivers.

Thanks a lot

On your hardware you could also try VIA Hyperion,it should work, the plus in this package is a better driver for SATA/IDE.Unpack the driver and update manually.
Keep in mind that if you achieved stability you can stay with what you use right now.If it aint broke dont fix it.
The 4 in 1 4.55 and 4.56 were good packages and Via Hyperion 5.08 and up should be better.
I recommend you to use the customized VIA drivers that your motherboard manufacturer posted for download on their website driver download page, so use whatever VIA drivers package ASUS advises you.
