Default Via Hyperion install fails with 0x80040707 error

Windows xp2
Asus A8V-E Deluxe mboard; Athlon 64 cpu

Was running Via 4in 1 drivers fine but decided to install VIA Hyperion 514A just to keep current.

After starting SETUP, get the following error message:

Error Number 0x80040707
Description: DLL Function Call Crashed; ISRT CallDLLFn

The install then shus down and suggests trying again. Repeats don't work. I even tried re-installing from another Administrator Account.

I see this error number posted on other forums for other driver or app installations. The few techniques suggested don't work for me.

Any suggestions (other than just sticking with the old 4in1 version?)

Thanks,
Ian

On their web (Ausus) they have the VIA 448/449 version, I would use Hyperion Pro 5.10a version and tell us how you get on.

Default Via Hyperion install fails with 0x80040707 error

Thanks,

Just tried VIA Hyperion PRO 5.10A, as suggested. Got exactly the same error messages.

Will try the VIA 448/449 from ASUS next but haven't yet been able to find it on their site.

One question. I have VIA Device PLatform Manager in my list of installed programs. I'm assuming
this is from the last install of the VIA drivers a couple of years back. I have been scared to delete it but am wondering if its presence is somewhow tied to this upgrading problem. If I delete it but still can't install the VIA drivers, will my system become non-functional?

Ian

Default Via Hyperion install fails with 0x80040707 error

Hi again,

Couldn't find the VIA 448/449 drivers on ASUS website but I found other sites that have them. But they date back to 2003 and I question that they are right for my PC. I had upgraded to a more recent version a year or so ago, without problems.

So, I won't try those.

I am not sure what this is so un-installing it might or might not solve your problem.

If it was my computer I would un-install it as I not worried about installing Windows or repairing for that matter.

Default Via Hyperion install fails with 0x80040707 error

Thank everyone,

Yes, my Virus checker/firewall is kept up to date.

Given that my system is running fine as is and that I can install other software without this error popping up, I'm putting this problem on the back burner. I'll be adding VISTA on a dual boot system basis in a week or two and will see what happens after that.

However, if anyone has further ideas, please pass them on. The other forums that have mentioned this error have suggested it is a problem with Windows Installer itself and/or I've got a Registry problem.

Ian

Default Via Hyperion install fails with 0x80040707 error

When trying to install either the current Hyperion Driver or the Vinyl Audio Driver I get error 0x80040707 followed by "Acces denied". After some research, I have the impression that this is an InstallShiled issue. I get the same error when I try to start the uninstall routine for the previously installed VIA Driver Platform.

The much-cited link http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108167 does't help, all the pathnames are correct in my registry. Installation/uninstallation of other programs works fine. Starting Windows in protected mode doesn't help either; installation fails, and uninstall of the VIA Driver Platform seems not to be allowed in protected mode.

I recall I might have installed the previos VIA drivers under another user account that meanwhile has been deleted from my computer - could it be that VIA uses user-specific registry entries or places files in a user's personal profile folders ....?

I'm using Windows XP Home SP2 and yes, my account has administrator rights.

It's a nuisance, and seems to be so for more than just one user.

Wow! Deja Vu all over again!

As you can see from my previous posts, I have almost the same problem. And, yes, Q108167 was no good. Everything that was supposed to be in my Registry was there, properly.

I also tried http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108158 It didn't work for me but you may be luckier.

JWeil

Have you tried the admin account when using safe mode?
