Via drivers are built into Vista. Best to leave them alone. I had no trouble installing on XP.

Does the new Falcon contain the IDE driver for Vista 32? The previous version didn't (as can be read in the release notes of the Falcon).

I installed the new Hyperion and will see if there is a performance gain there. It would be nice to also have a boost by VIa after the boosts that Microsoft provided in the last couple of months with compatability and performance updates.

Crashed the hell out of my system. Blue screen, reboot, blue screen, vicious loop ensues. I'm running a system based around a ECS P4M890T-M2 (Via P4M890 chipset). running Vista Ultimate. These new drivers SHOULD support the system. What gives?

P4M890 UniChrome IGP does not meet the minimum requirements of Vista WDDM. There will only be XPDM drivers, which are compatible with Vista, but often not without problems.

Have you tried the latest BIOS?

which is just one reason that I've got an nVidia GeForce 7600 card installed. The only drivers installed from the Hyperion package were the INF update and the SATA/PATA drivers. Those shouldn't cause this blue screen....but some change in them did.

Default Chronological List of Recent Hyperion Pro Driver Packs please

VIA Hyperion Pro 5.14A Drivers Released >
Chronological List of Recent Hyperion Pro Driver Packs please
(was moved here from Chronological List of Recent Hyperion Pro Driver Packs please)

On an old PC that has worked fine for years with no driver update, I just "upgraded" to VIA Hyperion Pro Driver Package (Version 5.14A, INF V3.00A, AGP V4.60A, V-RAID V5.60A and RAID Tools v5.40, VIA IDE Falcon Storage Device driver v2.20A) on the day it was out (Tue 27 Nov 2007). The PC froze each time a few minutes after booting, leaving me no time to change drivers; only in Safe Mode was I able to go back to an unspecified older driver that made me recover (apparently: "mshdc.inf, hdc, Version: 5.0.2195.6717, Date: 19 June 2003").

That old PC has W2KSP4, an Athlon XP 2000+, a Gigabyte GA-7VA (Rev 1.x) mobo with its VIA KT400 + VT8235 chipset, a Gigabyte GV-N66256DP Graphic Card, three 3.5" IDE racks, a Maxtor Ultra ATA/133 PCI Card, and has used for years a number of applications and devices, including internal and external RTC PCI modems, 2 LAN PCI cards, 2 TV cards concurrently, and a lot of USB devices, with no problems; in particular I used to image entire HDs on other HDs using Acronis TIH_9 (Acronis True Image Home 9) build 2337.

Recently I "upgraded" to TIH_10; which at once triggerred very bad problems, with data losses a few minutes after launching TIH, whatever operation (or absence of) was launched in it. Huge exchanges of mails and data (2MB reports on my PC gave Acronis more than any hacker would like!) with Acronis support, "upgrade" to TIH_11, plenty driver updates, didn't bring any relief - only more problems.

Now that I restored my driver situation of 2004, that system is finally running fine - unless I can't use TIH_11, which was its main purpose. Sure I can downgrade to TIH_9, but before I would like to get another VIA driver pack, newer than my current VIA 5.0.2195.6717 of 19 June 2003, but a little older and more tried than Hyperion 5.14A. The VIA Windows 2000 Chipset or Platform Drivers page suggests nothing older than Hyperion 5.14A other than the 4in1 4.43 of 25 Oct 2001, which is recommended only for older chipsets, not for the KT400.

Anyone can help tell which one is more stable and reliable? and/or tell where is a list of all older drivers available? TIA,

List found, explanations still missing

I just found the path to old drivers (sorry for early asking above):
ViaArena > Drivers > Windows > 2000 > Chipset or Platform driver > Old Drivers:
 1. Hyperion Pro 5.04A (11 October 2005)
 2. Hyperion Pro 500A (28 May 2005)
 3. Hyperion Pro 5.08A (07 April 2006)
 4. Hyperion Pro 5.09A (30 June 2006)
 5. Hyperion Pro 5.10a (28 February 2007)
 6. Hyperion Pro 5.12A (30 May 2007)
 7. Hyperion Pro 513A (27 August 2007)
 8. Hyperion Pro 5.07A (04 January 2006)
 9. Hyperion 4in1 4.53v (16 August 2004)
 10. Hyperion 4in1 455vp1 (25 November 2004)
 11. Hyperion 4in1 4.56v (12 April 2005)
Since they are not sorted in chronological order, they may be according to their stability or reliability or some other quality, but unfortunately nothing is explained about it. Anyone knows? TIA,
