ASUS K8V-MX and VIA 4 in 1
Have just got a ASUS K8V-MX for an upgrade..although could get a newer board.. After XP installation, every fired up properly except for an unknown device... knowing this is some missing VIA function, installed VIA 4-in-1.. but on restart, the screen gone blank... reinstalled xp without VIA 4-in-1, every works fine again...tried several times and given up...any help appreciated...
System: K8V-MX with 500 MB-400 Ram, onboard VGA and no other daughter boards. Bios version 0211, original XP version

Look in device manager to see if there is a yellow exclamation point next to anything. Let us know the description of the device it is next to.

ASUS K8V-MX and VIA 4 in 1
It just showed Unknown device and also in otherquestion mark it showed Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller.. when I clicked the Unknow Device, it told me that hte unknown device's location is on PCI standard ISA bridge and that the driver has not been installed.. I have not had the VIA 4 in 1 installed because once installed, the screen will go blank when I restart...
Thanks for your reply.... forgot to add that my CPU is AMD 3000+

If the PC is working with the standard XP/ VIA drivers, I would leave it. As far as the Unknown Device, I have those on several of my PC's as well. My newest PC has the same kind of device on the same PCI/ ISA bridge, and I'll be dammed if I can find a driver for it. Windows can't either. But, everything on the PC works fine, so I just ignore it. The PC also runs just fine with no problems. Just my 2.75 cents worth. Chris.

Skyjuice and Chris
Heres a piece of sofware that may find what the unknown devices are. I have not used this but maybe worth a try.

Thanks Chris and Boyblue,
I can live with the unknown device... but there are also other problems without the VIA 4-in-1...finally, I got the problem solved by installing SP2 and got hold of the original installation CD... after that I reinstall the VIA 4 in 1..everything work fine. search of new hardware helped to install more than 10 new devices... but the unknown device still there...at least, solved most of the problem...
Thanks again
