Can’t read S.M.A.R.T. with VIA Hyperion Pro v5.10
I have the ASUS K8V-MX motherboard based on VIA K8M800-VIA VT8237A Plus chipset. I have installed the latest VIA Hyperion Pro v5.10a package for Windows XP x64 v5.2.3790 (SP1 included) and got a serious problem for me. Now the software can’t detect S.M.A.R.T. attributes for my two SATA hard drives. I have checked a lot of software and the problem has not been solved! My own systray NextSensor tool can’t detect the hard drive temperature too, because the only way to get the temperature is to read it from SMART. Give me any suggestions, please!

SMART has to be enabled in the BIOS, it is not a problem with the VIA chipset drivers. Chris.

Can’t read S.M.A.R.T. with VIA Hyperion Pro v5.10
Mr. Chris, I always set the S.M.A.R.T Capability option in BIOS to enable! Besides, I have never have any problem with SMART reading in Windows XP x64 with standard windows drivers for the IDE ATA/ATAPI controller until I have installed the latest VIA Hyperion Pro Pack that includes a special driver for IDE/SATA drives. And now I have the VIA Bus Master IDE Controller – 0571 in the Windows Device Manager. It should be a problem around VIA’s IDE/SATA driver definitely!

Try reverting to an older version of the drivers or remove the 5.10 ver and revert back to the "standard" drivers if you must. The standard windows drivers are merely an earlier version of the 5.10's.
Unless there was a problem with the machine, it is always the best policy to leave it alone. I refuse to update anything on mine relating to the basc platform, including the video. As far as the software goes I let Windows udate as necessary as well as the AV and firewall.
BTW
I don't even try to look at the smart data, the parts are working, they also get ignored.

Can’t read S.M.A.R.T. with VIA Hyperion Pro v5.10
Engine:
The problem is the VIA Hyperion Pack 5.10a cannot be uninstalled correctly. I have tried to remove the pack completely from the Add or Remove Programs Manager, but the uninstaller is always at 0% and the hard drive is always active. After 10 minutes I killed the process in the Task Manager and rebooted the computer. Windows XP x64 was not booting no longer! Damn! Fortunately, I run the operation system by choosing the last good Windows configuration and updated VIA drivers again.

If you have System Restore enabled, go back to a restore point before you installed the updated drivers. It is always a good idea to set a restore point just for that reason, if there is a bug in the new drivers. Chris.

Try Speedfan instead of NextSensor.

Can’t read S.M.A.R.T. with VIA Hyperion Pro v5.10
There is another one strange thing with the VIA Hyperion Pro 5.10a Pack. Before installing this driver pack my Western Digital WDC WD2000JS-00PDB0 Rev.21.0 hard drive parked the corbel quietly when windows was shutting down. Now the corbel is parking very loudly exactly like when I switch off an electric power!
Well, nevertheless, I have just uninstalled the driver pack and rebooted the computer. Unfortunately, the problem isn’t solved yet. The software still can’t read S.M.A.R.T. attributes! Damn! What a crap this VIA Hyperion Pro pack! Be careful!
