Default Installing new drivers

I am running a ASUS A8V Deluxe MB.
Currently have Raid 0 running.
All I did when I set the raid up was use a floppy I made from the CD with the MB to F6 the raid driver when installing XP.
Should I install the the latest VIA drivers?
Can I do that with out reinstalling XP?
I would like to have the VIA Raid tool for monitoring my drives.
I was told this would tell me the health of each drive.
SMART does not seem to work checking Raid 0.
Sorry for the noob questions.
I am just a old man trying to learn.

Should I install the the latest VIA drivers?

YES---d/l the latest Hyperion Pro 5.10A and after Unzipping it to a temp directory simply RUN the SETUP from the main directory. The installer is smart and will basically have everything checked for install to include the VIA RAID Tool.

Can I do that with out reinstalling XP?

YES---You will not have to re-install XP because this is an upgrade of your previous Hyperion install as well as an upgrade to your VIA SATA/RAID drivers.

SMART does not seem to work checking Raid 0.

Most Onboard SATA/RAID controllers like the VIA VT8237/VT8251 as well as the Promise-378, INTEL ICHR4/5 and NForce 3/4 controllers can only report the SMART status of the drive thats in the Channel 0 arrangement due to hardware limitations and the nature of the Onboard chip's architecture as opposed to a standalone PCI based RAID Card
Does this help?

Thank you.
You were great at answering all my questions.
I installed the new drivers.
Everything seems to be running ok.
I did score a little better in HD Tach.
Thanks again.

Default Installing new drivers

Hi,

I have a related question. I would like to identify my VIA chipset. My cpuid.exe gives me the chipset device code. How do I whetehr it is a KT400A or possibly a KT600 ? I would really appreciate getting references to these codes.

I know the excelent article of Fiona Gatt about identifying chipsets. Somehow her examples just stopped short of the K7 series device numbers.

Thansk in advance.

Rejto, you can also get the free Everest Home Edition at Majorgeeks.com, one of my favorite sites. It should tell you all you want to know. Chris.
