Default Somewhat of a problem updating drivers...

When I have updated bios's I have always cleared the bios with the jumper with the power off once the bios update is complete and then booted up to set the options in the bios, used save and exit and then boot to Windows.

It has been a long time since I last asked for help on this, but right now I'm in a phase where my computer crashes a lot more often than usual, when I'm playing certain 3D graphics games.

The issue at hand is with the AGP drivers of the VIA chipset driver bundle. My AGP graphics card is currently and unchangeably set to AGPx0. I can't set it to the standard AGPx8 without updating the AGP chipset drivers, and that's where this problem comes in.

So yeah, if I try to update those drivers, Windows becomes unbootable except in safe mode, where the distorted bars make it nearly impossible to use. I haven't dared trying to update in a long time, since the last two times I had to reinstall Windows. Though extremely frustrating and difficult it may be possible to go in Safe Mode and uninstall the AGP chipset drivers after I've attempted to install them, but I'd rather not go through that.

When it comes to the BIOS update, I need some expert opinion:
Should the AGP chipset drivers install without problems if the BIOS is updated, or is this just something I should do that MIGHT help? Are there documented cases of occurrences similar to my own where the issue has been resolved in any way?

What power supply are you using? Brand, power. How old is it?

*sigh*

What does the PSU matter?

It seems clear that this is unsolvable. It's silly and pathetic. Not only can noone help, but the issue completely breaks my computer. It's like buying a brand new expensive dishwasher just to find out it has missing parts, doesn't clean dishes nearly as well as it should, and sometimes ends up breaking your dishes, and no mechanic or service person has any idea what parts are missing, how to find out what parts are missing, where to get parts or why the missing parts make it break stuff. Then having to live with that dishwasher daily for years.

I'll never buy another VIA-related product ever again.

If you must know, though it doesn't matter, the PSU came with the AOpen fulltower, and it's around 350-400w
