Questions about 4in1 installation

I have a little problems with my rig. I think the couse
couldbethe chipset drivers.</p>

When i install the latest 4in1 hyperion drivers, and use
normalinstallation, it should install all and give me the coise to
pickone if i want. In my case, it only shows the via Inf. driver,
notthe agp drivers or anything.</p>

Allso not even the inf. driver seem to install, only blinks
thescreen couple times fast, tells to reboot.</p>

If i try to install the driver again from the package,
withnormal installation again, there is no option to remove the
Infdriver, only to install it again as it would have not
beeninstalled there in the first place.</p>

Next i took the old MoBo installation CD , used the 4in1
driverin there and in that old package i managed to get AGP driver
andthe others installed too. (now it actually gave me the option
ofinstalling them) But the Inf. driver seems to be missing from
thisone. And now i dont know what to install anymore.</p>

The problem is that when i drive 3DMark2005 , i get like
1400points with my rig. My fried gets over 2200 points with he`s
rig...</p>

Im using Asus A8V Deluxe AMD643200 | 2x
512mb Kingston 400mhz DDR | Asylum GeForce FX5950 Ultra(256mb)</p>



My friend has Intel pentiun 3000mhz | 2 x 512 400mhz ddr
|Radeon 9800 pro Asus with via chipset (if i dont remember
wrong,cant remember model)</p>

I can belive my rig cant even compete with hes ? The
Graphicscard should be pretty much the same, some says it even can
easylykick the radeon 9800 pro versions *** (if you knwo what i
meen[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]</p>



Alsso the memory is same, bios updated and both have
defaultsettings, and the difference in processors can`t be that
huge. Ihave tried 2 differend versions of Nvidia forceware to the
card andno use.</p>

What am i doing wrong here?</p>

You bring up some good points, but there are differences in the hardware. Some of which can cause a difference in the numbers. The way everything is cabled will make a difference. HD configuration and make / manufacturer, optical drive, same thing.
Hard to compare apples and cars.
Best to work on what you have and try to up the numbers. These programs like Sandra and others are a good bench for YOUR system and not necessarily a good compare to your buddies.

The problem here lies within the way the FX series handles pixel shader 2 calls

you see the radeon your friend owns has 8 pixel pipelines and supports true 24bit shaders

the 5950 only has 4 pixel pipelines and it has a half precison shader model which consists of 16/32 bit

Directx 9 requests 24bit for ps2.0 actions

its not actually your system or drivers but the flaws in the way the 5950 was made

also

the latest hyperion sets are made to detect what drivers your system needs as XP sp2 installs its own agp and ide drivers

if you wish to,

run the via hypersion installation program in windows 2000 compatibility mode and it will allow you to install the agp and ide drivers

if you were to put a newer video card in

from the 6600 series or 6800 series your computer would beat the pants off of your friends

i dont include the 6200 in that becoz its not a gaming card just like the 5200

if you search the web you'll find more info on it

My 5900XT only gets between 800 and 1200 points, be thankful for your 1400

also please note that 3dmark is written as a synthetic benchmark

it doesn't represent real world gaming

and its optimised for ATI hardware

Indeed this was the case. The FX card was beaten to death when using 3dMark2005 that runs on dx9 .

When wi switched to old 3dmark that runs on DX8.x the system kicked the (you know what) out of him ^^


Well i shall change the card.

Thank you about the replyes, i was kinda scared something did not go as planed in the driver installation since it did not install the ide / agp drivers.

newer hardware is on the way soon and you don't wanna get stuck with lastgen hardware just yet

im now regretting spending my money on a 5900XT when the 6600GT kicks its ass

video cards with more ram and more pixel pipelines will be released soon
