Default Windows x64 Drivers - What is the real story?

bhanderson, you might try posting your question in the " Windows 64 beta " catagory of these forums. And for
your information, most of the people who are in the forums here that do answer the many questions, we are
not by and large VIA employees. VIA staff do visit the forums but for the most part we here volunteer our
time to try and help as we can.
You can go to the VIA website and ask for Technical support if you wish, or hang in here and one of us may
be able to answer your question. And welcome to the Forums. Chris.

Mr. Chris - I understand that and i have tried contacting VIA
with no response. Furthermore, the VIA website states "VIA has
its own technical support portal called VIA Arena. This is a community based
website with a dedicated staff that offers all VIA drivers
as well as product specific support forums..."</p>

</p>

There is no other place to go to find information - and they are
supposed to by their own words have dedicated staff on here to
answer questions. I appreciate any members who might know something
on here but the fact is VIA should be answering the question. It is
truly absurd that no one who has their chip based boards knows when
they can go 64 bit and that we are stuck with a beta driver which
will not even work with the RTM version of Windows. I do not
understand how this is acceptable?!? We at least deserve as
customers to be told an ETA.</p>

</p>

Squall - For some it might not be worth it... Again as I said
before - I have specific reasons for needing to use it. Regardless
it is a 64 bit based system with a 64 bit OS and no drver to
support it. I do not want to argue the merrits of using it, as I
have my own reasons as do thousands of others. Btw, without having
the drivers how do you expect 64 bit games to even be made?</p>

What is the real story?

VIA's Hyperion 64-bit drivers for SATA and audio simply don't install correctly without a registry hack. In the case of the SATA drivers, that means the OS can't be installed directly on to an SATA drive.
Certain sound cards do not have drivers availaible.

If you have the right hardware WinXP x64 works well.

So, as with Linux, check compatability, if you are compatable 'have at it', if not, oh well (or buy some stuff that is compatable).

Hi - the ONLY thing not "compatible" is the VIA
chipset of my Asus A8V Deluxe. There is no RAID driver or driver
for the VIA controller... This is a VIA issue - it is not about
Windows - it is about VIA needing to put out a final driver for
their RAID setup.</p>

</p>

VIA put out or answer when it will be out.</p>
