To go to a newer version you just install the new right over the old. No need to remove. To remove to use Windows native drivers or install older versions, run the installer (i.e. the exe file) of the current version again. Choose normal mode, choose "uninstall" for each driver at the prompt by putting a tick in the radio button. Reboot. You are back where you started.

Where is the original exe file on your PC? I have no idea. It depends on which folder you downloaded it to in the first place and if you left it there. If the version is OEM, the file was probably never copied to a folder but rather run from a CD or floppy when the machine was made. Sometimes folks delete the exe file to regain drive space so it may not be there at all. To see the installed version of 4 in 1 drivers: Click on Start, then Run. In the window type "regedit". When the registry editor opens click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. Down the tree to the folder "Software", down the tree to the folder "Via 4 in 1 Driver". Double click to open. The installed version will display in the pane. You can just download the file for that version again and run the installer to uninstall. As for why the driver version does not change, Windows will only install the drivers it needs. If the driver is not needed, it will not install and update. Jim

Default Apollo Pro chipset Abit VL6 board

I recently upgaded from 98SE to WinXP Home edition Ver. 2002 Service Pack 3 and was wondering what version of 4in1 drivers does XP install? After the install completed I looked in the registry and there was no listing for VIA.

System specs:

WinXP Home Edition Service Pack 3
Abit VL6 VIA Apollo Pro chipset (BIOS vers. VL6k)
Pentium 3 1.0Ghz 133FSB
768mb RAM - PC-133mhz
Nvidia Geforce 5200 Ultra 128mb (175.16)
Sound Blaster Audigy Platinum (most curr. drivers)
Plextor DVD-RW
Toshiba DVD-ROM

I installed a couple of older games and wasn't to happy with their performance compared to when the system had 98SE. I then downloaded VIA 4in1 4.43 and installed them. The games run better but when I looked in the registry at the VIA version it shows version 4.42. Is this right? Please explain. The system seems to run great no problems from what I can tell.

I'm also thinking of downgrading the diplay drivers. What would you recommend for the BFG Geforce 5200 Ultra 128mb?
