M10000 Nehemiah WinXP install problem - screen corruption
Hi,
when I hit install problem with my M10K Nehemiah board, I thought to myself - ah, how typical. Then I came to this forum to look for solution, but I can't find any advice here.
My installation "hangs" in some 34 minutes left for set-up to be completed. If install goes luckily further, I can see display being corrupted and it asks me for viagart.sys or what file. I don't know why, because I am still far from OS being fully installed ....
I played with various BIOS (1.0F - my board came directly with the latest bios), but I rarely know what am I doing, especially when memory and various latency issues are concerned. The only thing I know for sure is:
- my board has latest bios
- I have strong enough PSU - 200W
- MSI CD-ROM
- 40GB 7200 Seagate drive
- 256MB, 266MHZ (PC2100), CAS 2 Apacer memory ...
from experience with installation of ASUS A7N8X-VM I can tell that it is wrong memory which causes wrong display of stuff on screen and hangs the computer, but of course, as I said - I am no expert in that area.)
So - any advice how to get WinXP installed on Nehemiah?
Thanks a lot,

RE:M10000 Nehemiah WinXP install problem - screen corruption
Hello,
iam not sure, if this would help you. I have big problems getting my Hauppauge PVR350 run on my Epia-M10000 (Neh.) under XP or any other OS. Iam working, testing and checking since three weeks now. The systems freeze, when i try to install the drivers of the Hauppauge.
But now to you, iam testing anything i know. So sometimes i get some other errors. Own error was a video corruption on my monitor. No driver version or bios configuration fixed this. The screen was on the wrong position and i could not set it up in the OSD of the monitor.
I plug the tv-cable out of the composite-adapter and all was correct. Strange i think...
Iam not sure, if this would help...but i installed 5 versions of XP, from XP home over XP prof., XP prof. corp...all installations were correct. I get no problems...

RE: M10000 Nehemiah WinXP install problem - screen corruption
Thanks a lot ... I don not remember exact solution, but maybe it was different memory module used. But I have another hw config problems - control panel shows me e.g. 2 COM1 ports, 1 unknown device and some other conflicts. I disabled COM1 port in BIOS, but it is not reflected in WinXP, so .... weird thing that M10K - I saw no other board with such kind of problems with WinXP.

RE:M10000 Nehemiah WinXP install problem - screen corruption
Hi pekr
any luck solving your issue with installing xp at 34 mins.?
i just installed my m10000 with 256mb ram, 80gb hd, a dvd/cdrw drive and a 200w micro atx power supply. I am experiencing the same issues you have.. I tried installing xp pro and also home.....they both bug out at the 34 min. mark, then my screen gets all corrupted and i get thrown into an infinite loop. I've installed win2k pro flawlessly.....any advice would be appreciated.....thanks.

RE:M10000 Nehemiah WinXP install problem - screen corruption
All I can say is - try different memory modules. It was the issue. We changed memory and all seems to go well (almost). IIRC someone suggested Corsair memory, or Kingston Value RAM (while others warned of ValueRAM usage) - I really don't know.
As for me - M10K we have is imo flawed and not well designed. We have board revision "B" - what is yours please? Noone replied to my post asking for board revision number. I have seen no other board (even from via - we use KM4M (23x23cm) + Athlon 1.8 + ArcticCooling Slim Silent Pro - and it is WAY quiter than whole M10K stuff - that is just unbelievable, that VIA tries to make note about quiet computing, while it is not necessarily true.
We don't give up though - I know silent & small sized computing is the future. We are ready to experiment with Epia CL (TC no awailalble here yet), MII and are eager for nano-ITX boards.
If VIA wants to regard themselves being multimedia company, new boards should definitely use more advanced gfx chipset (those new coming DeltaChromes), VT8237 south-bridge, 7.1 Envy sound.
I really can't understand, how CLE266 is a media thing? Can you imagine monitor + TV output at once? Even cheapest Asus 5200 gfx can keep frequency of primary display intact, when watching TV, while CLE266 drivers not only lower primar display frequency, but it distortes monitor display. VIA should fix those issues or stop fooling ppl around ...
PS: could someone d*mned correct quick reply bug, which forbids me from posting, accusing me of using inapropriate wording? Thnx (btw - reported it to feedback)

RE:M10000 Nehemiah WinXP install problem - screen corruption
I did it! Power Supply issue my friends. After I replaced all the components the only thing left to try was a new power supply. Didn't make any sense that a bad power supply was able to install w2k fine, power the monitor, Hard Drives, Motherboard, DVD/CDRW,LED's.....ect but would not install properly with an XP Pro or Home install. Again, NEW power supply solved the infinate loop problem at the 34 min. mark during Xp installs.
