Angry EN15000G. Faulty or not?

I've just bought an Epia EN15000G from Ebay. It was described as brand new and unused, and looking at the contents in the box I'd say this was true.

After I power the board up, the fan spins and the power and hdd leds stay on. Nothing else happens. No beeps and nothing on the monitor. I've tried unplugging everything but the same thing happens.

Do I have a faulty board, bad jumper settings or any other obvious thing I've forgotten?

Any help would be appreciated. There's no problem with a refund but I thought I'd try everything out first.

Did you clear the CMOS using the jumper? Is this in the case or outside of it? And you're sure the monitor is good, with a low enough screen resolution (eg: 640x480)

I usually use a piece of cardboard for the first boot attempt and only one stick of RAM. I'll hook up a speaker, and use a small flat blade screwdriver to touch the power pins to boot the board. Once it's running, then I mount it in the case.

Try that before you return it. Chris.

Hiya. Thanks for the reply.

I've not yet mounted it in a case and like you I use a piece of cardboard. I've tried it with and without ram. I had to buy ram to go with the motherboard, so I wasn't sure if that was faulty or not.

I've tried clearing the CMOS and the monitor is fine. I'm using a power switch cable from an old pc rather than poking it with a screwdriver.

I don't have a speaker handy though. I assumed the one on the motherboard would beep.

Any other ideas? I wouldn't mind keeping the board but I don't know what VIA's exchange policy is like in the UK.
