Default Help, via mini-itx board will not power up with 12V P4 4pin power connector

Hello everyone,

Needing some guidance regarding a Commell LE-565 mini-itx motherboard which is based on Via chipset and Eden cpu. It has an onboard p4 power connector and a 12v dc jack connector. I wanted to use a regular atx psu w/ p4 connector to power the board, but it will not power on at all. I have only the p4 connector hooked up, but when i try to power it on, nothing will come on, not even the psu.

I tried this with 2 different psu (antec and sparkle) which works with other systems. Also tested in two different cases.

Any ideas?

An ATX power supply will not power on without a signal from the main board thru the ATX connector, which you are not using at all.

I'm not sure if they make an adapter that will allow the ATX supply to power that board or not. Sorry I can't be of more help. Chris.

tnynyn -

You need to connect the PSON wire of the ATX PSU 20/24 pin connector to GND (that is connect the GREEN wire to a BLACK wire) to turn the power supply on. If you use a switch to do this then you can use it to turn the PSU on and off. If you permanently connect it then the PSU will always be on (if mains power is present).

NOTE - some soldering/crimping/wiring is necessary. If you are not confident to do this get some help! Bad things can happen (dead boards, smoking power supplies, etc etc) if not done right.
