I would still go the USB2.0 route
Vantecusa.com is the website.. in the FAQ section, they have what chipsets are in what models.. I suggest you look it up. I did NOT see any firmware..

AH!!! Thank you for your help. Yeah, when I booted up a different model case it was a no brainier from there. I can assume there is no way to change the GUI or a tweak in the bios in my computer ??
Humbly asking, why USB instead of the firewire ?? The purpose for 2 ext is to back up and then.....back up of my back up. Wouldnt I lose speed in transfer of back up ? I am backing up the usual, pics, docs, applications, music, etc etc

Well, unless you are using Firewire 800, there really is no difference between the two today, and as you saw, USB is more compatible.
I know there are lots of peeps out there spouting the 'miracles' of Firewire and such, but unless its FW800, none of that holds true today. Even camcorders (the great 'Ace Card' of FW pundents) are going USB2.0 now. I have a Sony HD 'corder that uses it exclusively
However, I'm not here to tell you what to use, only imform. You could run a few tests and see what works best on your system, and whether the hassle is worth the speed advantage of either (if any).

yes, there are jumpers on them. I cant remember if I tested them while setting them differently.
Here is an update though. I used a different case, different manufacturer, via firewire.....booted up fine.
UGH !!!!!!!

Well that supports Oyl's theory about the Fire Wire address (000). It's obviously different for different manufacturers. Chris.

Do these drives have jumpers on them for Master and Slave or are they SATA drives? Chris.

No worries. You may still want to see what effect changing the jumper on one of the drives has, from Master to Slave. Chris.
