I hope this might work for all of you who have any of the cards
listed.
VT6202, VT6212 and VT8235.
Just letting you know that you will lose your integrated USB 1.1
ports during this process.

First of all, I bought
This Card on ebay.
It is known as the
VT6212l (that should be an L). I couldn't
get it to work just like you guys. But today I finally found the
solution. P4t's solution also helped, read carefully and hopefully
this will help you get your VT6212l USB 2.0 card to work under
WinXP SP2.

Note: Make sure to unplug all USB devices, do not have anything
plugged in yet.

Step 1) Open up
Device Manager, remove or uninstall
everything under
Universal Serial Bus controllers. When you
are done, nothing should be shown. The name
Universal Serial Bus
controllers should not be shown under Device Manager anymore.
Don't worry about the drivers, hopefully none of them that still
lies in the
C:\Windows\system32\drivers won't corrupt your
installation.

Step 2) Restart your computer, then get into your
CMOS or
Bios screen and disable
USB Legacy device. This will disable
your old integrated USB port. Don't disable the other USB support,
I've noticed that there is another option to completely disable
USB. Make sure to look for the word Legacy in it.

Step 3) After the restart, check
Device Manager and see
if anything was automatically installed by WinXP. You should have
some devices like
VIA Rev 5 or later Universal Host
Controller,
USB Root Hub,
USB Enhanced Controller or
Standard PCI to USB Controller(This one will vary depending on
what card you have). Don't worry if you see more than 1
USB Root
Hub and
Via Rev 5 or later Universal Host Controller.
This is normal. If you don't have the name
USB 2.0…
listed, this is normal also. The most important devices are
USB
Root Hub (mines listed 4) and
USB Enhanced Controller
(only 1 should be listed).

Step 3.5) Here’s where I think p4t went wrong. If you see
only one
USB Root Hub and one
VIA Rev 5 or later
Universal Host Controller. Then try to install this driver from

VIA drivers for USB 2.0 card. After the installation finishes
and it'll make your computer restart or give you the option to
restart. This is driver helped me showed all the extra
USB Root
Hub and that
VIA Rev 5 or later Universal Host
Controller.

Step 4) Check your
Device Manager again to see if
everything is properly installed. And if the Universal Serial Bus
controllers looks normal. If it still doesn't, then I'm not sure if
you can move on. If you can read Step 5.

Step 5) Look for the drivers that were downloaded for your card
and look for p4t's drivers. Extract these two files in seperate
folders. You should have one folder called
VIAUSB2V260-L and
p4t's folder
WinXP_USB2. Look for
MSUSB_XP.CAB under
the folder
VIAUSB2V260-L. If you have Winrar, use it to
extract the .Cab file in the folder
VIAUSB2V260-L. If you
don't have winrar, you can find it or look for a .Cab extractor.
Once your done extracting, you should have two files,
VIAEHCX1.INF and viaehcx1.cat.
VIAEHCX1.INF is the
important one, remember that.

Step 5.5) Look for the file
usb2x.inf in the folder
WinXP_USB2. Remember that location.

Step 6) Now go back to
Device Manager and get ready to
update your USB drivers. Start off with the
USB Enhanced
Controller or
Standard PCI to USB Controller or the
device that is completely different from the
USB Root Hub
and
VIA Rev 5 or later Universal Host controller. That
device should be the only one that
