Default Finally got my VT6212l 4-port USB 2.0 to work on WinXP SP2

Good day to everyone. I would like to add my experience in this thread about the VIA 6212L usb card I bought recently. This card has 4 ports (external) plus 1 port (internal).

When I first installed the card, Windows XP detected and installed the drivers for it. I then connected a 1 meter USB extension cable to the internal usb port so I can run it toward the front of my PC so I can easily connect a USB device.

I connected a 4-port USB 2.0 hub to the extension cable. But the flash drives I plug into the hub only run at USB 1.1. Because of this, I tried the solution of "Shinryuu" (the 1st post in this thread). But still, the USB devices would only run at USB 1.1 speed. Windows XP says that they will run faster if plugged into a USB 2.0 port.

I then tried connecting the extension cable to the 1st external port of the card, the one closest to the PCI slot of the motherboard. Interestingly enough, the USB hub now functions at USB 2.0 speed. So all devices I plug into the hub now run at USB 2.0. So I tested each port of the card, and I only get the USB 2.0 speed from the 1st three ports. The 4th port, the one furthest from the PCI slot of the board, and the internal port only runs at USB 1.1 speed.

I am not sure why this is. Is it possible that not all ports of the card run at USB 2.0? Or is there something wrong with the card itself? Any feedback will be appreciated. Thanks.

Default Finally got my VT6212l 4-port USB 2.0 to work on WinXP SP2

Hi guys,

I also HAD problems with this USB thing and found this thread here. I became truly dissapointed while reading all your posts, because it seemed that you guys have tried everything possible to get around manufacturer's inability to provide a simple PnP solution.

I solved my problem , by shear luck. As mentioned by some posters here, I went to the BIOS settings and looked for the "Legacy USB" thing, to try to disable it, as was suggested. While trying this, I noticed that I have other options beside "Disable", there were the "Primary" (default) and "Secondary". I choose "Secondary", rebooted, checked Device Manager and there where no ??? or !!!. I connected my extern disk and it work as it should, on USB 2.0. And even my USB 1.1 still works. I have some older ASUS board with AMD 1.4 MHZ on it.

It worked for me, but it seems almost everybody has different situation.

Good luck to all (we will need it wit such hardware manufacturers!)!

Default Finally got my VT6212l 4-port USB 2.0 to work on WinXP SP2

At last with shinryuu and P4T and Hotfix 892050' help my Via 6202 PCI card is working as USB 2.0!!!!!!

I downloaded the Hotfix 892050 freom Microsoft and unzipped it. I then deleted all USB devices in the order, Hubs, OpenHost Controllers and finally the Enhanced Host Controller. I then installed the Hotfix and rebooted. Then I installed the drivers as per shinryuu's post, and rebooted again. I checked the styatus of the Drivers under the Device Managrment and found that 2 of them showed as USB 1, so updated them and rebooted. On reboot I checked the status of everything and found that my MP3 player which is USB 2.0 was working a lot faster when transferring tracks, and I didn't get the usual 'Connecting High Speed USB device to a slow speed port' At last all seems to be OK. To be honest I had virtually given up hope.

Hello, thank you for all your replies.
I have a VIA6212L PCI card on a WInxP SP2 machine. I tried everything mentioned here and it still didnt work.
Finally I plugged my card into a different PCI slot and it started working. I didnot have to install any extra drivers and it detected all of my USB devices.

I can only say, please try all of the PCI slots available on your machine. If it doesnt work on one, it may work on the other. IT didnt work on 3 slots on my machine, but worked on the fourth one.
Thanks.

Just using this fix worked for me.

Download details: Update for Windows XP (KB918005)

Give it a shot.
