Default Finally got my VT6212l 4-port USB 2.0 to work on WinXP SP2

VT 6202 Successful Installation WinXP Home SP2

This was time consuming determining how. The CD "VIA" folder gives 2 options. VT6202 is required but this gives old software which did not work. 2006 software was downloaded from http://www.via.com.tw/en/index.jsp. In order to get the card to function I upgrade the Intel 945 BIOS and then change it so that USB's started first. It then came alive and is working well. Very simple process with no changes to the device manager.

First post work for me (XP SP2). Just I extracting VIAEHCX1.INF form the newest VIA USB 2.0 driver pack for better results (i think). I don't set to disable by CMOS an onboard USB controllers and i just remeber in xp a difference in usb hub properties. Also you need disable "VIA Rev 5 or later Universal Host controller" for havn't to repeating installation usb2x.inf for meanless other USB Root Hub's.

To Kaloyan,

I got the same problem as you of "Unknown Device" even I succsessfully done of posted in NO.1.

I check VIA site, they mentioned this problem at: http://www.viaarena.com/defaul...?PageID=5&ArticleID=71 , it said:

USB hub known issue

If you connect a new USB device to a USB 2.0 hub on a computer, the computer does not detect the USB device. This symptom occurs if the computer is running one of the following operating systems:

•Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2)
•Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack (SP1)
•Microsoft Windows Server 2003 x64 versions
Additionally, other USB devices that are already connected to the computer stop functioning, and you have to restart the computer to detect the USB devices. Resolutions to these known Microsoft issues can be found on Microsoft's web site here.

I Checked microsft site: it said need an hotfix ( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/892050/en-us ),but this hotfix is not published at all. So google it I got: http://hotfix.xable.net/downlo...B892050-v3-x86-ENU.exe

I was not luck because there is no Chinese version of hotfix 892050. so the hotfix refuse to install, could somebody installed and send me two files(syhsyhcn#yahoo.com.cn):

Usbehci.sys
Updspapi.dll

Thanks in advaced,
Eric

The 892050 hotfix has been replaced by 918005.

You need to pass Genuine Windows validation to get it, but it solves most problems with VIA USB cards.

Why do you keep offering hotfixes that have absolutely nothing to do with VIA USB controllers?

This is a hotfix for a battery drain issue on Windows XP SP2-based portable computers (e.g. laptops).

Nothing wrong with having a later driver, but every person you've offered the hotfix to has reported it did not solve their VIA USB issue.

tcsenter: Although the MS KB article for this driver refers to battery drain issues, the hotfix solves nearly all the other issues with USB 2.0 host controllers. I have VIA USB 2.0 with this hotfix and no VIA USB drivers on my K8T800/8235 chipset laptop and it's solved all the problems I had. It has also helped on Intel, NEC and SiS USB 2.0 chipsets.

The 918005 v4 hotfix has the 3020 versions of usbehci.sys, usbhub.sys, usbohci.sys, usbport.sys and usbuhci.sys, in other words most of the drivers responsible for USB compatibility issues.

As far as I can make out, if this hotfix doesn't solve the problems, they are due to issues with either IRQ sharing or how much power the USB card can supply to USB devices. I've encountered both on laptops with older VIA chipsets and PCMCIA USB 2.0 cards.
