How do you know which card you have? Are you saying that
VIA's card will not work as USB2 with XP and SP2 without going
through the process you decribed???</p>

Shinryuu-

First of all, thank you for your post. It saved me from wasting money on a similar eBay purchase. I was about to drop some money for a card for both my father and I before I read your post. Thank you again. Turns out that you have nearly the exact same setup as I do....same motherboard, same OS....

Quick question, do you know if this issue is strictly related to VIA chipsets or am I going to run into similar problems if I purchase a PCI card that has a ALI or NEC chipset? Will I have to implement your solution if I purchase a card with a different chipset?

Thanks again for all your hard work!

Mark V.

Hi, Everyone:

Should I keep trying to get this card to work?

I, too, bought THIS CARD on eBay and cannot get it to work.

But I bought it for my older EnPower ENP-701 laptop, which has no onboard USB, is a Pentium 200, and is running Windows 98SE. I know the PCMCIA slots are OK as my ethernet card and MIDI Traveller card work fine.

From what I've read here, I may never get it to work. Should I keep trying? If not, does anyone know if there is a PCMCIA USB card out there that will work with my antiquated system?

Thanks in advance for any help or guidance!

Default Finally got my VT6212l 4-port USB 2.0 to work on WinXP SP2

Hi Guys,

like soooo many others, I too have a VT6212L based PCI card which I'm attempting to get working on my legacy 500Mhz K6-III+ based mobo.

I followed all of Shinryuu's advice based on P4t's outline.

The USB 2.0 ports seem to be working although my whole PC is running much slower whenever a USB device is plugged in.

Interestingly, if I check the Properties of the 3 USB 2.0 Root Hub in Device Manager, the Manufacturer is listed as 'NEC'...now I thought that's what we were trying to avoid !?!

So I checked the contents of the usb2x.inf file as supplied in WinXP_USB2.zip by P4t at his link http://www.geocities.com/p4tgb/WinXP_USB2.zip, and low and behold, NEC appears everywhere in this file, without a trace of VIA in sight !

My question...is this usb2x.inf really the correct driver file for the VIA VT6212L chip ????

Thanks for your input. Cheers...Dale

Oops, sorry I forgot to mention that I'm also trying to get this to work on a Win XP+SP2 system.

Frankly, VIA's excuse about the unavailability of USB 2.0 drivers for their VT6212L chipset due to MS licensing rights is quite lame! So why haven't NEC or ALI had this same problem! And why can VIA distribute the drivers for Win 98 & ME but not XP !?!?

I thought those sad days of unavailability fo drivers were over...but apparently not!

Cheers...Dale

Hallo,

i have bought the USB 2.0 Card by ebay too.
With the card there was a CD with the drivers. But on the computer i have installed the card one of the files could not be read. So i tryed it on onother computer and there the CD could be read.
I copyed the installation routines for the diver and installed it.
And it seems that it is working.

(I installed it on on older computer 900Mhz, with XP prof. XP2)

So let me know, if you would like this installation routine too.

I am new to this forum and it could be that you cannot send me emails.

I will look from time to time in this forum and see if there is any question about it.

Sorry my english is not so good, because my mothertonge is german.

cheers Marita

EricBarker's solutions rocked!
I have an 800 Athlon (i know, it's ancient now...) running XP-SP1
I had to disable the onboard USB functionality altogether in the BIOS
physically installed the 4-port 2.0 card, which Windows did not autodetect this time around
Ran the Setup.exe in the driver he quoted and it worked!

Default Finally got my VT6212l 4-port USB 2.0 to work on WinXP SP2

I've tryingn to make this work for almost more than two years. Recently I needed to install usb2.0 hi-speed ports on PC that's using VIA k7 motherboard.

I have a VIAUSB20 PC card with 3 + 1 port with the VT6216L chipset, but none of the solutions works I tried tham all, and they work out fine, but as asson as I attach a usb2 device, my XP fails to recognize it and detects it as "Unknown Device".

I tried both with clean XP, cp sp1 and xp sp2 -- nothing works. Is there someone who managed to get this pi card to work ? Anyone ?
