Default Via too late?

I joined this forum because I wanted to build a carPC. I read about linux and speed problems of Via, and the Isaiah plans. I then learned about the Linux support being beefed up. I thought I was in heaven, and did not mind waiting patiently for the Nano CPU and VVX800 combo to hit the streets.

In the meantime, Intel came out with the Atom CPUs, and delivered them too. Atom almost has a monopoly. Apparently there were Via chips being made, because almost every HW oriented site did a comparison, where Via Nano won.

So now Intel comes out with dual core Atom, and already have a very proven track record of supporting Linux. My patience is gone now. Why did Via sit on their hands for so long? Are they too small to scale up production? Why not dripfeed the market, that gives us consumers a choice. A little shortage raises the price thereby increasing margin. Look what Apple did with their iPods and iPhones, make them scarce so people talk about them.
