My friend struggled to get the 4GB version here in the UK, trying various places such as Currys, Dixons, PC World, Scan, Ebuyer ETC, in the end he had to settle for the 2GB version which nobody else was buying because they wanted the 4GB version, makes sense.

However, he opened it up and discovered that the memory chips were soldered to the motherboard, so the RAM in his eeepc is not upgradable, which makes him regret buying it, but he was lucky to get a 2GB eeepc with 512MB of RAM, when the standard for the 2GB model is 256MB.

Having actually experienced one of these eeepc first hand, I can tell you, they're not as good as they appear to be, firstly the CPU is supposed to be a 900MHZ Celeron, but it's underclocked by default to 600MHZ, which can really slow it down, the eeepc is said to be able to handle 1GB of RAM, but if you're unlucky enough to get one with RAM soldered to the Motherboard, you can't upgrade it.
The Solid State Drive is fine, but small, in the 2GB model, installing Windows XP (Lite version of course) leaves you with just under 500MB of space left once you have stripped out everything from Windows XP that you don't absolutely need to run the OS and the expansion slot (the SD card reader) is fine for reading from, but writing to is extremely slow.

In short I don't think it's worth buying an eeepc, the price is good, don't get me wrong, but what you get is disappointing.

As far as i knew the Asus Eeepc that would be distribute here are those with 4gb SDD and comes in black and white colour. Actually someone link me to a overseas distro that distribute the Asus Eeepc but then after adding shipping cost is $100 more as compare to those retail selling here but warrantly wise would be quite troublesome cos if anything went wrong, user would have to ship it back and fo.

Tks for your tip, bannik

Not too sure of the ram which solder to the motherboard issue. But would seriously consider before purchasing....

It's up to you Cas, but I seriously wouldn't buy one, I would buy a proper laptop, there are a lot of things the eeepc can't do due to it's low specs, if you're seriously looking for a desktop replacement, the eeepc isn't it.
