Hi Cas...

I have been using Avast Home for nearly 2 years. Never had a problem with it. Its not a memory hog like others and seems to get everything

AVG has been acting strangely recently on another pc which my family member was using it wouldn't automatically updating itself and scan as well. Have to update manually. Btw whenever i startup my system i could sense that it was very lagged, especially between the schedule scan/update hour though it wouldn't do anything or maybe running in the background.

The above led me to suspect it has to do with avg

So I have avg uninstall and install avast and while doing a scan just now, it managed to caught the following>>

I used Avast for years, and it still runs on my mum's laptop. Wonderful program. I only switched to NOD32, cause it was better and a little lighter (and I got student-discount!).

You can deactivate stuff of Avast you don't need. Like Network Shield and such.Furthermore, it makes a sort of back-up for files that are important. It puts those files in the Virus Chest. You can use that to replace infected files. I'd be using Avast if I would not use NOD32.

Yes, Avast does do daily updates. You can totally configure that. It does it on a daily basis, sometimes twice a day.

Now give me positive reputation :P! Haha, lame.
