RealNetworks has released the final version of the free RealPlayer 11 media player.

last time i installed real player on a computer, i think it was version 8. back then, most videos on the net are in real format. but since windows media format and flash videos came out, the real format has been kind of forgotten.

Out of curiosity, could you name some RealPlayer alternatives for me, I used to use the real thing, but it does install a lot of stuff you don't want.

The only thing I use is WMP11, thats it. I know WinAmp is another common one, never tried it so I could really tell you.

It's truly called Real Alternative.

Kilroy, Winamp won't play .rm files, that Real Alternative is designed to play. The .rm codec is essentially proprietary to Real Media.

I use K-lite Mega Pack (Free-Codecs.com :: Download K-Lite Mega Codec Pack 3.6.5 : The K-Lite Mega Codec Pack includes the K-Lite Codec Pack Full, QuickTime Alternative, Real Alternative support and Monkey's Audio DirectShow decoder.).

It's a huge codec pack with both video and audio codes. If you choose Lots Of Stuff install you can also encode to a lot of codecs (very handy for people who edit/render a lot). It also has RealPlayer Alternative and Quicktime Alternative, which can also be disabled if you want. K-lite is the best codec pack I've ever seen.

Otherwise, I use WinAmp for audio. I didn't want to try it for a while, but when I did I was immediately satisfied with the nimble program and after I installed a WMP11 skin the interface was as I wanted it.

So, Winamp for audio, and Media Player Classic for video.
