new stable via drivers have issues with ubuntu 8.04 and everex stepnote 1500 (896hc)

Hello,
I'm having some issues getting 3D working with the new stable driver and ubuntu 8.04 on a everex stepnote 1500.

Below is the error that glxinfo is giving me:

X Error of failed request:  BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)
  Major opcode of failed request:  160 (GLX)
  Minor opcode of failed request:  3 (X_GLXCreateContext)
  Serial number of failed request:  16
  Current serial number in output stream:  17

glxgears works, however, i believe that it is using software rendering as it only reaches ~150fps with the processor at 0%.

ps. before, i wasn't even able to get glxinfo to work until i made the permissions for libGL.so.1.2.via_chrome9 to "read only" on group and others, changed from "none" before.
