I have spooky problems with Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 160Gb disk on EPIA EN1500G.

I have tried 3 brand new disks of this model on 2 different MB's.

2 of the disks is not found by BIOS and kills also the second ID. 1 of the disks is found but causes reboots during WinXP install.

If I move the disks to primary slave connector (grey)all 3 disks are found on both motherboards.

I am convinced of that there are a compatibility problem with Seagate Barracuda ST3160215A and EPIA EN1500G it seams as you have the same problem.

I have tested with some other HD's that I foud at home Hitatchi, Fujitsu, Maxtor and they are all detected by BIOS without problems.

Nice to know I'm not alone with this problem. I'll try your suggested solution when I get home and see what happens. I'll post my result and hopefully, if it works we'll help some other helpless soul out there with this thread.

Bummer !

Still same problem.

Tried the Seagate Tools disc instead and it said I had bad sectors on the disc during the DST ( Disc Self Test ). Don't know why my other machine didn't find them :-/ .
Ran the repair function on the tool disc and after that the test ran without a problem.

That was all I had time for this evening. I'll see if I can install Ubuntu when I get home from work, now when the disc is "fixed".

At the moment it's using the grey connection according to the last posters suggestion. The jumper is set to master ( haven't tried cable select on the grey connection. But wouldn't that result in it becoming slave ? Remember reading that somewhere).

Tried cable select earlier just for the heck of it and didn't make a difference.

Currently though I'll go on the assumption that the disc was somehow "damaged" and that the Seagate tools have "repaired" the faults on the disc. Based on this assumption it should work. Just need to get home and try it for real

Ubuntu installed on the machine last evening so I'll close this question for now. Guess it was the disc all along that was the culprit and not any settings. Oh well..
