Default SATA hard disk installation

I have a MSI Motherboard with 2 SATA ports. I bought a new SEAGATE SATA hard disk. The hard disk is not being detected. When I use a jumper on the SATA harddisk, the VIA SATA RAID utility detects it on one of the ports but it says that the disk has unadequete space for creating an Array !!!! what does this mean and how do i rectify it?
If i dont use the jumper, the hard disk is not detected at all.

Windows XP also doesn't load since it cannot find any available hard disks. I have the SATA RAID driver on a floppy diskette. Even that doesnt seem to work in the RAID utility.

As the new disk is raw, how do i get it to work???
PLEASE HELP ME GET OVER SUCH FRUSTRATION and on how to get the disk working........
waiting eagerly for a reply......
