Default D'oh! I think I did a Bad....

So, I got the super-virus (aka. virtumonde & antivirusXP 09), pain in the ass that was, but it's cleared up now.

After getting the compy fixed I decided to create a guest account on my comp, so such things can never reinstall themselves, and wouldn't you know it... sound stops working.

I vaguely remember having a similar problem when I first put XP on my computer, quote a while ago, but I don't remember how I fixed it. Assuming I just updated the driver, I searched it out off the VIA Arena and installed it, then rebooted as requested.

Now it won't boot... D'oh! I did something where I don't know what I did!

Now sure what info you need from the Everest prog, so here's the system summery:

Update: I disabled to Via codecs and have been able to reboot in normal mode. I found the correct driver, and installed it, but still no sound once it's loaded. It does play the "wondow's log-on" sound, but no system sounds.

Hmmm, that's the way my Windows is set by default, you may just need to go to Windows sound properties and select a "scheme" that will play all those cute little noises for you. Chris.

No errors in the device mgr, but a few of the "Use This Device" options are greyed out, I don't think that's a big deal, as none of the VIA drivers.

I did however remember what I did last time, though it's only a temp. fix... I plugged the speakers into the front headphone jack, as opposed to the rear audio jack. I'd like to still get the rear jack fixed, if any one has any ideas, god knows I got enough junk plugged into the front!
