Could anyone tell me say if i add my ram to 2 or 4g plus upgrade to a Quad processor, would it help say like speedup on most task like playing games, video editing and backup etc?

Cos just a couple of day back, i did a full recover of data of a hd which is 500g and it took me 2-3 day to complete the recovery though i let it run overnight without shutting down, the rig which i'm using is exactly what you saw on my sig

Adding more ram and a Q6600 will make a very positive impact on just about anything you do. A lot of games now and coming out will be multi-threaded, which means a quad core would be of great benefit. Things like video editing and conversion is where a quad core really blows away a dual core CPU. Even MS Vista is designed to take advantage of all 4 cores.
Adding more ram is always a good things, with the demand of games and other programs its always the smart move.
I think it would also help with data recovery also, but cant say for sure seeing how I have never done that.
Remember if you have a fast GPU,CPU and 4GB of ram, but a very slow HD, that will take away from your performance. So if you want speed and performance, you want to have a ballanced system with quality hardware.
