Really hard to say to be honest. The video card you have is certainly not the best solution for gaming. So I would recommend something a bit more mainstream such as ATI or Nvidia.
As far as your problem, I would 1st uninstall the Video drivers and then reinstall them and see how that goes. Try the previous set of drivers you were using before you updated them for a 2nd idea.

Its very possible that the video card is not compatible with the games, or the driver being used is not compatible with the games. If the video card was dead then you wouldnt see anything at all. When you say crashes, explain what happens, does just the game crash and your left with just the desktop, does it produce a blue screen and restart the computer??
There could be other factors here at work also, corrupted drivers, corrupted OS etc. You said you had the system then gave it to someone else. They could of changed, installed something that you are not picking up.Very hard for me to say without actually sitting down and looking the system over.
Look in device manager, are there any conflicts?? Look in event viewer, are there any errors being produced that relate to the problem??
The video card you are using is a very poor choice for games, like I said before it may be better to get a new card from ATI or Nvidia and see if the problem persists.
You may want to do a full system format and reinstall XP also, this will take care of any issues that are just near impossible to pick up.

ok when I go to play max payne or american street drag, max payne freezes(as in black and blue screen) and the hot rod game does it when I get to the next level.but when it crashes it does not go to desktop it restarts pc after a few minutes.everything is fine in device manager, how do I check the event viewer?and I do realize my vid card is bad for games but I never had this problem before?

1st try installing the latest DirectX which is March 2008.
Download details: DirectX SDK - (March 2008)

Then uninstall your video drivers, and then reinstall them and post back your results. Your error is something to do with the game, DirectX and the video card.

Now questions, these games you have, you said you played them before with this video card, correct??
