Games have to be coded for surround sound or you will only get 2.1 channels. And if the game does support 5.1, there is usually an option you have to enable in the game's sound options. Not sure about Winamp or Media player, I don't use either, but I know iTunes doesn't have 5.1; neither does Power DVD unless you purchase the audio upgrade.
And I have Realtek onboard sound, so it's not just a VIA thing. You can try using Magic 5.1 (I think that's what it's called) see what that does. Basically, the program you are using must support 5.1 or all the codecs in the world won't give it to you. Chris.
