Wrong link
Mr. Chris, when I follow the link to install the latest audio driver, it takes me to
VIA Arena - Display Drivers
which has a piece that says "Ensure that you are installing the right audio drivers by following this guide."
The "guide" takes me to
Welcome To VIA Arena ...
Which is not a guide at all. It is a bunch of recent news.
So, where is the guide that helps me ensure that I am installing the right audio drivers?

dwalker, can you tell me the make and model of your mainboard, then I can look it up and see what onboard sound you have and get you the correct driver. Chris.

The purpose of this post was to let you know that the link takes you to the wrong place.
I currently have the correct driver and utility (HDeck.exe), but I don't like it because it pops up a "Welcome" message near the system notification area every time I reboot. That "welcome" message is very very very annoying.
The link that says "Ensure that you are installing the right audio drivers by following this guide" should point to a guide that, um, helps you ensure that you are installing the right audio drivers, and not take you to a regular news page.
(I think the link actually points somewhere else, and it gets redirected, maybe because the original target is broken.)
Thanks.

The link takes you to the news page and at the top there is an articles button which takes you to the guide in question, yes it is around about way to get there but I suppose the site owner wants you look around.
Heres the Audio guides shortcut. Articles Menu
Remove the HDeck.exe program and install the drivers through the device manager that way you should have sound but no annoying pop-up.

Thanks for that pointer. From the "news" page, are users really expected to be able to find that audio guide? Sheesh!
My motherboard is the ASUS M3A78-CM. I don't know if I need the driver called "VIA HD Audio Codec VT1708 paired with VT8237A/VT8251/CX700(M)" or the driver called "VIA HD Audio Codec VT1708A paired with VX700(M/M2)" or one of the other three (VT1708B, VT1702S, or VT1708S).
I have some system diagnostic tools, but they aren't telling me which audio chip this motherboard has. I know the SB is ATI SB700.
Thanks for any assistance. The guide, which is hard to find, has ALMOST enough information for me.

Can you see the audio chip on the motherboard itself? It should have the chip model written on it.
