Question VT1723 Driver - Help Please!

Hi, I recently bought a VT1723 audio card, and was told to download the driver, but I cannot find it. Can someone please tell me where to find it, and what to do when I have downloaded it, as I am not very computer literate!

Thanks,

Jesse

Question

Did the card not come with the driver CD? Have you tried going to the website for the maker of the card to get their drivers? And, if your board has built in audio (onboard) did you disable that in the BIOS? Chris.

Did Windows detect new hardware after installing the sound card? If not, then either the card or PCI slot isn't functioning.

Your card could also use a custom PCI ID that is not supported in the VIA drivers, but require drivers from the manufacturer.

With the card installed, go to Device Manager and locate the 'unknown' PCI device. Open the device properties and get the PCI Device ID, which for XP is shown under the Details tab/page (I don't know if its the same for Vista).

There are three elements to the PCI Device ID; VEN, DEV, and SUBSYS. It should look like this:

PCI\VEN_xxxx&DEV_xxxx&SUBSYS_xxxxxxxx

In the example above, 'x' could be any alphanumeric character.

I have the same problem - bought Gembird SC-5.1-1 sound card with VIA VT1723+1617 chipset (PCI\VEN_1412&DEV_1724&SUBSYS_24031312&REV_01). System is Windows XP SP3 32bit.

Drivers from CD does not suit, drivers from VIA page does not suit either. Drivers from Gembird Europe B.V. are for FM801 sound cars. Any ideas how to install this sound card?

Looked through Envy24 drivers .inf files - there is "VEN_1412&DEV_1724", but no "SUBSYS_24031312". I have too new sound card?! Drivers are 5.40a.

Gembird needs to post the right drivers that include its subsys ID.

Alternatively, you can manually 'force' install the VIA Envy24 drivers or just edit the INF to include the subsys ID. The driver and configuration settings are the same for all VT1723 boards. Editing the INF will cause Windows to give a warning that the driver is not digitally signed or could not be verified, but you can select 'install/proceed anyway' and it should work fine.

If you check for Windows Updates in your browser after installing an unsigned driver, Windows Update might offer an older signed driver when it finds an unsigned driver is currently installed, even if the unsigned driver is newer.
